What did you wear to work today? If you are like many people, you probably wore your usual work attire, such as a suit. You then went to work, clocked in, greeted your coworkers and supervisor, went to your desk, sat down, and got busy working to meet your productivity goals for the day. Not every occupation requires that employees wear suits, however. In some lines of work, such as bather at a pet store, employees are allowed to wear casual attire, such as T-shirts. If you are fortunate enough to be allowed to wear T-shirts to work, you likely have a variety of shirts to choose from. If you ran in the Boston Marathon, you may even have a T-shirt from the event. Did you wear it to work? Why?
One reason why you might have worn a marathon shirt to work is because you wanted to show others that you are strong. You survived the race, you are eager to challenge yourself in more athletic endeavors, and you are ready for more challenges at work. In addition to wanting to challenge yourself, you may have had another reason for wearing the T-shirt to work.
Another reason for wearing a marathon T-shirt to work might be to get people interested in participating in a marathon. Marathons are certainly different from a normal day at work. They are outdoor events, which get people outside in the fresh air and away from their desks. Many people appreciate a change in their normal routine, because it makes life more exciting for them. If you recently participated in a marathon, such as the Boston Marathon, and you enjoyed the experience, you might wish to share the experience with others by inviting them to join you for the next one.
While you are at work, you might go to the water fountain to get some water. A coworker who is also getting some water might notice what you are wearing and say, "I like your T-shirt. Where'd you get it?" The conversation would then play out something like this:
you: I ran the Boston Marathon.
coworker: Wow! You must be tired! Was it hard?
you: Nah. I've been training, so it wasn't bad. I'm looking forward to the next one. You should join me!
coworker: I'd love to! Let me know when you want to get together to work out and start training.
you: Cool! I will!
The two of you could then get back to work, excited about participating in an upcoming event and looking forward to becoming friends, rather than just coworkers.
