My High School Sweetheart

We've all had some sort of experience with love. Some good, some bad, and others we'd rather not talk about. I think we can all agree that our first love is our most memorable experience because this is when we first experience the ups and downs of being in love with someone else. For most of us, this love is short-lived, but as the saying goes, "the first's love's the sweetest, the first cut the deepest."

I met my first love my junior year of high school. It was actually the summer before I started my junior year. One day I had gotten home from practice and this girl called me to ask if I was going to the fair. I said yes and of course I was wondering how the hell she got my phone number. But back then, I learned not to ask those questions because hey, a pretty girl called me! Who cares, right?

We met up over at the fair with a few other friends and had a blast. She was a very outgoing, blonde, brown-eyed girl and me being shy as heck, was nervous, but her easygoing nature made me feel comfortable around her. I felt an immediate spark from her and it really seemed like she did too. The thing that kind of sucked though is that the rides at the fair kind of made me get motion sickness, and I felt like throwing up at one point. This was an embarrassing feeling, but I hid it as well as I could because I didn't want to seem like a wuss.

In September, it was her birthday month and by then we had been "talking" a lot to each other but weren't an exclusive couple yet. One day she came to class and passed out invitations for her birthday party. Her family was going to have a sweet sixteen birthday party for her, and of course she invited me! I was so excited, yet nervous to go. I knew that the birthday party was the perfect chance to ask her to be my girlfriend, but I was scared to do it front of everyone. I knew I had to do it, though.

The birthday party came around, and it was packed with people. The music was blaring but nobody wanted to dance! It's that kind of weird thing where you go to dances and stuff in high school but for some reason, no one wants to be the first one on the dance floor. To this day, I've never really understood why that happens, but I digress.

She kept trying to get people to dance, but everyone was content just chilling on the chairs. The DJ then played a slow song, and I knew this was my chance to make a move. Now or never, I though. I went up to her and asked her to dance, in front of everyone. I could feel my heart beating a thousand times per minute, and I was trembling from nervousness. And she said yes!

For about 5 minutes, we had the dance floor to ourselves. I could hear my friends cheering for me! Our first ever dance was a slow dance at her birthday party and we had the dance floor to ourselves, how romantic was that? And well, safe to say she was my high school sweetheart from that moment on.

That is so cute. It's actualy nice to read it from from a boys perspective, us girls didn't really understand that most of you where just as nervous as we where. Beautiful piece.

Haha I would imagine we're even more nervous! It's hard to just walk up to someone you like and ask them out. But then again, I imagine girls fear not being approached by anyone at all.
