It was time for the people of the Central Region in Ghana to celebrate their lives and pay homage to their gods who they believed to have protected them over the years.

On the night which served as the inception of the festival celebration was known as “Akoms nite”. This was commenced with the traditionalists, which included the Fetish Priests and Priestesses, who displayed their weird play of incantations and charms amidst singing and dancing to evolve the presence of their gods.

The Fetish Priests and Priestesses were dressed with cowries, beads, a cloth tighten around their waist for women and a shaggy cloth for the men. A whitish stamp on their bodies, not forgetting the tail of a horse (bodua) which needs to be always in their hands to signify their role as intermediaries between their gods and the Supreme Being.

The indigenes, tourists and media men were present to witness this historic event and the rich culture of this people. The Priests and priestesses chanted throughout the whole night until the sun rose the next day.

On the second day of the “Fetu Afahye” was another exciting event known as the “Bakatue” which signified the lifting of a band of “no fishing” in the “Fosu Lagoon” ( a lagoon near the Atlantic ocean but don’t coincide with it) which was imposed a month ago.

The activities in this event comprised of a regatta, sprinkling of mashed yam, pouring of libation by the traditionalists into the “Fosu lagoon” and the actual lifting of the band in the lagoon.

As the incantations were going on, the libation was been poured by the traditionalists. A net was then casted into the lagoon and a gun was fired three times into the sky.

The quantity of fish caught was to signify how flourish the harvest will be this year. The net was drawn and some fishes were caught, we await then how the harvest will be like.

On the third day of the celebrations, which happened to be the first Friday of September and the day before the grand Festival was marked with a sacrifice of a cow at a place called “Prapratem.”

The cow was sacrificed to the god “praprata” who was among the three most powerful gods in the capital of the region, Cape Coast.

According to history, the god which is a tree was cut down and to their notice. The tree had returned the next day as it was before.

Therefore the rituals and sacrifices will not have been complete for the “Fetu Afahye” if that particular sacrifice was not offered to the god “praprata”.

We were told that, in the olden days that customary practice was used to be a human sacrifice.

As the cow was lead to the place, the chief, traditional rulers and a handful of elders were dressed in red to signify their readiness for the festival, as they marched on to the place for the ritual.

The cow was slaughtered, libation was poured, its blood was sprinkled on the god and the meat was shared among the indigenes to mark the sacrifice.

You could just imagine the huge number of people who were there to witness this practice.

The grand event commenced with a procession of the chivies, where they were carried in their colorful palanquins coupled with their beautiful “Kente” cloth and their gold ornaments to represent their royalty.

The town was in extreme excitement as they rallied and cheered towards their leaders. The procession was through the principal streets of Cape Coast and to their final destination known as the Victoria Park which saw the climax of the event.

Present at the event was His Excellency the President of the Republic of Ghana, John Fiifi Atta Mills, ministers of States, members of parliament, the diplomatic core and some leaders of the political parties in the country. Speeches of dignitaries were read, pleasantries were exchanged and plans for the future of the region were disclosed.

In the evening, you could just imagine the restaurants and rest spots full to capacity. The indigenes and foreigners assimilated and enjoyed themselves to the success of the “Fetu Afahye”

If you are interested, you can come to Cape Coast, the Capital of Central region, where there is full of tourists and recreational sites you can have lasting memories and the best times in life.

Many thanks for your time again with me and I say I am most grateful.

Have a good one and keep the positive mental attitude in all that you do.

Instead of the phrase “falling away” in 2 Thess. 2:3-4, it should have been translated as “rebellious stand”. The rebellious stand by the anti-Christ must come first.
