When you read the title of this article you are probably thinking (if you are a bible reader) fish, bread, and wine. But there is more to the diet of the Lord than many around the world would think. I remember a popular comedian saying he does not believe Jesus will be concerned with your diet when He returns. And in a sense that could make sense when we look at all the horrible things going on in the world today; we have killings, mass killing, oppression, hate, rape, sexual abuse of young children, and abusive slavery still going on. With just this if an angry Jesus the Christ came back tomorrow, one would think a pork, shrimp, and duck soup diet would be the last thing Jesus is concerned with.
One of the most quoted sayings in the bible comes from the prophet Samuel. When the first king of Israel (among man) Saul did opposite of what he was commanded of the Lord to do, he told Samuel that he did what the Lord wanted. He left the king alive that he was ordered to kill, and the animals, even though the Lord commanded he killed everyone and everything. Samuel replied, “It is better to obey than to sacrifice.” And it is better to obey the Most High God than to sacrifice. It is better to obey even when others are doing evil. You may say “others are killing but I am just stealing, there is no harm right?” This thought process is incorrect and harmful.
According to the teachings of Moses, there is a diet outlined that we are to adhere to. Jesus came into the world and told the people to do what the Pharisees were teaching, one of which was the dietary regulations (Matthew 23 v3).
These same dietary regulations Jesus was compelled to keep in following the rules given by Moses. For the sake of this article, I will refer to the dietary laws as the Jesus diet. The Jesus diet consisted of bread, veggies, fruit, water, occasional wine, and fish sometime referred to as meat, and probably things in accordance to the people of the village of Nazareth. The spiritual basis of the Jesus diet pertains to two denominators; clean/holy and unclean/unholy. You are what you eat, if you eat clean and holy, you are clean and holy. If you eat unclean and unholy, you are naturally unclean and not holy.
Peter was in a trance and ALL manner of beast came to his vision with the words, ‘rise kill and eat.’ It is here where people justify eating everything they have the taste buds for. The interesting thing in Peter’s case was his emphatic response to the Lord, he said “no Lord; for I have not eaten ANYTHING common or unclean.” This is what people like to refer to as the “Jewish” diet. The people of Judah followed a dietary compliance given by Moses, which was essentially given by Jesus the Christ (the Jesus Diet (see the Old Testament God)).
The Jesus diet is laid out plainly in Leviticus chapter 11. Jesus tells us that He is our God and we should sanctify ourselves to be holy because He is holy (Levi 11 v44). He separated the animals, the clean from the unclean and the animals that can be eaten from the animals that are not to be eaten. Do you have a clean diet or an unclean diet? Are you holy or unholy; you can get on the Jesus diet starting today! Be sure to leave a comment below before you leave and share this article with a friend.
