Foggy Headlight Restoration

Foggy or "cloudy" headlight lenses are not only ugly on you vehicle, but can cause a night driving safety hazard. your lights will not shine a brite and they can diminish you night viability. fortunately this issue can easily be fixed yourself with numerous products on the market today. saving you you allot of money on an unnecessary and costly professional restoration. In this article i will be discussing one product in particular The 3M headlight restoration system it is one of my favorite and a vary comprehensive kit.

tools needed; -3M headlight restoration kit -A Spray water bottle -Masking Tape -Some clean soft towels -A Variable speed cordless drill ( for best Results)

First: Clean the lens with soap and water, after the area is dry tape of the area around the lens with the masking tape. with the power disc connected to the drill mount the back up pad to the cordless drill. ( Note drill is not necessary but is highly recommended ) . there are other kit available that do not recommend a drill but you result most likely will not be as good . attach the P-500 gold colored disc to the back up pad on the drill. using a back and forth motion with light to medium pressure . begin sanding to remove yellowing and any other surface defects from the lens. note if the sanding disc becomes clogged it should be changed to another P-500 disc. Now wipe the lens with a soft cloth to inspect it to ensure all the yellow and defects have been removed.

Step 2: attach the P-800 disc to the back up pad using the same back and forth motion as mentioned above continue to sand the lens . make several passes to to re sand out the previous scratches from the P-500 grit disc procedure. again wipe the lens clean with a soft cloth.

Step: 3 Attach the foam P-3000 disc. using you spay bottle filled with water spray the headlight lens and moisten the P-300 pad and begin the wet sanding processes again use the same technique as before . you may need to occasionally re moistening the work area with the spray bottle . as you sand you will notice a white milky sludge this is normal and that how it should look. wipe the lens after the wet sanding procedure, the lens should appear clear at this point.

step 4: Now it is time to Polish the lens attache the orange foam compounding pad to the drill. Apply a dime size amount of headlight polish onto the compound pad.next smear the polish all over the headlight lend to reduce splatter when you turn the drill on. Polish the lens until the cloudy haze is gone and the clarity is significantly improved. note: the polishing step can be repeated if desired to ensure the clearest possible results.

step5: Next remove the tape from around the lens clean the lens with a micro-fiber clothe, ashe off any polish that maybe have splattered om other parts of the car with soap and water and a clean car wash cloth.

Your foggy headlight restoration is complete, and now with better clarity and appearance you should notice a brighter headlight beam in night driving .

There are many headlight restoration kits available today. some steps layed out in this article may vary slightly from manufacturer to manufacturer. be sure to always read and follow their instructions provided with which ever kit you may purchase. In general i have found that many of the product imply the same method and make for a very easy automotive fix that anybody can do with little effort.
