How to Find the Best Work Light for Mechanic

A work light is one of items mechanics can never work without. There are so many types of work lights for mechanic on the market at different prices. If you have some knowledge of each type of lights, you will be able to find the best work light more easily.

First thing you need to know is whether you need a corded work light or a cordless work light. If you need a corded work light, the length of the cord is important. It is not really true that the longer a cord is the better. Extra long cord tend to absorb oil and water on the floor, get tangled, then damaged. Keep in mind that you could use an extension cord. So, consider the place you use the light and choose a work light with the right length. If a work light you're looking for is cordless, the battery life is vital. Batteries of most work light for mechanic use a rechargeable battery. In this case, the longer the battery life is the better.

Next, you need to choose the type of light bulb. There are 3 types of bulbs, incandescent, fluorescent, and LED. An incandescent bulb is a conventional type of bulb. A filament inside of round glass glows when electric current passes through it. An incandescent bulb is much less efficient than other types of bulbs. Most incandescent bulbs can convert only 5% or less energy into visible light. The rest of energy converts into heat. This heat could be dangerous to some types of auto repair jobs.

A fluorescent bulb is much more efficient than an incandescent bulb. In other words, it produces much less heat. The work light using fluorescent bulb is more expensive than the work light using incandescent bulb. That is because fluorescent bulb needs a ballast to regulate electric current running through the bulb. But considering the better efficiency and the longer life of bulb, the cost of replacement bulbs and electric bills, total expenses would be less than incandescent work lights.

Both light bulbs are weak against impact. You need to choose either a sturdy, light-weight, or cushioning designed work light for mechanic.

LED is the most efficient and longest life of all. However, work lights using LED is relatively expensive. That is because LED work lights need to regulate electric current more strictly than fluorescent work lights. Basically, the more pieces of LED a work light has the brighter. But there is a new type of LED. A single strip LED just looks like a fluorescent bulb and it is very bright. Since most LED work lights are cordless and powered by batteries, comparing operating and charging time among products will help you choose the best work light for you.

These are very simple but very important factors when you find the best work light for mechanic.
