Imagine yourself getting ready for work. You got dressed, ate your breakfast, had a cup of coffee and you head to your car. You try to start it, but it wonât start. You try to find all access for transportation, but you canât find any help and you missed work.
You find out through the mechanic that the problem with your car could have been avoidable if you have checked your car. Sounds like a bad day. The purpose of my article is to give advice of some of the best ways to reduce risks of experiencing car problems.
1. Know What Car You Plan on Purchasing
There are a lot of cars up for grabs. Still the owner should be aware of what car they are purchasing. Used cars have their own history and it is your job to find out what it is. Check for maintenance schedules, car accident reports, customer satisfaction of the car from other owners, how others like the car, and test drive. These are necessary, because you do not want to live with regret paying for car repairs and payments at the same time.
Ever heard of âyou get what you paid forâ. Well it is true. If you pay for a car for a cheap price more than likely something is wrong with the car, unless there is a price special. Not saying that the higher you pay for a car the better the quality, but still make sure you have good high standards on what car you want to purchase.
2. Be Gentle with Your Car
Cars break down just like humans. The more you push the car to do something can hinder performance of the car. For example hitting the brakes really hard will wear your breaks out faster or hitting the gas fast and hard can mess with the carâs timing when accelerating.
If you do not have to drive, do not drive. Letâs be honest, what is the likelihood of a car needing repair if the car is sitting in your garage or parking lot than driving it everywhere? It is slim to none with that chance. Just like humans, cars too need a break.
3. Give what Your Car Needs
When you see that your car maintenance light for oil, engine, gas, battery, tire pressure and etc. take care of your car immediately. Driving without what it said it needs results in the outcome that the car tried to tell you to avoid. Rather than paying for a simple quart of oil you will be paying for a whole new engine.
Do regular oil or other fluid checks. Doing regular checks will help inform you of any leaks or prevention of future car problems. There will be a time where the car needs a certain fluid change or maintenance check.
4. Check Your Car during Weather Conditions
It is better to avoid all types of weather if your car is parked in the garage. Having it in the garage will keep it cool during the hot summers and keep it warm during the cold winters. Make sure that the garage is not hot because heat accelerates oxidation, also known as rust.
If the car is parked outside, make sure your car is handling the weather fine. It is preferred to get a car cover so that rain, hail, sleet, or snow will not be on the car as much. If you do not have a car cover please check and see the body of your car for water spots, salt residue, and dirt. If so please wash your car.
In Conclusion
The best way to keep your car running will take as much effort as treating it like a human. If you expect that vehicle to get you from point A to point B, it is important to take care of it so it can take care of you. Sometimes conditions of a car reflect the ownerâs personality and value.
