Down town Santa Rosa houses some of the best food Sonoma county has to offer. Next time you are down there be sure to swing by 4th street and look for the big red neon sign that says "TEX WASABI'S ROCK AND ROLL SUSHI BBQ". Now every wednesday night at Tex Wasabi's, they are doing live music and drink specials.
August 21st is when we went and this marked Tex's second Wednesday doing live music. As I walked in the front door the I could see and hear that the energy in this place was already in high spirits. The dim lighting blended perfectly with the neon lights, artwork and Rock N Roll attire. The dark wooden tables and leather seats throughout the place made you feel you could still find comfortable privacy within if you wished.
The band was strategically placed on a balcony overlooking the main room of the restaurant to give it great acoustics. Under the balcony was a nicely dressed sushi bar with chairs so you could watch your sushi being made as you dined. They have 2 colorful well bars one up stairs located right next to a large bubble koi tank, and the main bar down stairs. I couldnt believe my eyes when I saw they had Jack Daniels and Honey Jack Daniels on tap. Also at the foot of the stairs by the bar was a human sized granite statue of a cowboy riding a giant koi fish, which is the Tex Wasabi logo.
The servers were very knowledgable, friendly and quick to help. my friend and I decided to go with the "Jungle juice Bowla" as recommended on the drink specials. In case your not sure what a bowla is, imagine a fishbowl shaped 60 ounce glass with really long neon straws sticking out the top. And if that's not enough, then picture it with 3 cool little plastic sea creatures floating in the drink. The Jungle juice bowla is normally $27 but tonight they were only about $15.
With our drink we ordered "Vegas Fries" and some "Killer egg rolls". The Vegas fries are crispy french fries tossed in Franks red hot sauce and butter, how could you go wrong with this great combo, all you need now is a side of ranch dressing. The Killer Eggrolls were very crispy and fresh, drizzled with sweet chilli sauce and Unagi sauce. This particular appetizer was everything you could ask for in a spring roll.
We made sure to call a cab after the bowlas because they really do knock you on your a**. Tex Wasabi's was absolutely cracking for a wednesday night I will definitley be going back and I look forward to my next visit. I can only forsee it becoming more and more popular in the future. hopefully next time I will see you there because i will be returning with many more people next time.
