Get Faster at Running - Improve Quicker to Sprint Past Your Competition

Being able to run faster than your competition is something anyone can do. Although it may not be easy at first glance, the ability to improve running speed can be cultivated and nurtured through simple techniques that i will highlight in this article.

First off, one very important thing you have to note if you want to get faster at running is to drink PLENTY OF WATER. If you had a naggy parent and coach like I do, you probably would have heard of this countless times - to keep drinking water. Trust me, although simple, drinking more water does allow your body to function better, especially if you intend on doing well in running, or even any other sports and daily activities for that matter! So how important is water for the runner? The Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research study has found that dehydrated runners performed their laps slower by 2 times as compared to their hydrated competition. Also, it was found that the dehydrated runner felt that they were feeling hotter and putting in more effort when compared to the hydrated runner during the race. So how much water to drink? you can use this formula Body weight (lbs) x 0.5 = (ounces of fluid/day).

The second most important tip to improve running speed is to put in extra arm action. If you are thinking of sprinting ahead your competition in the big race, you need to be able to coordinate your arms mechanics with the pace you are running at. Moving your arms actually stabilizes your torso, thus allowing your power to be transferred through the hips. This efficient transfer of power is exactly the concept that can improve running speed, as well as allow you to reach maximum velocity, as well as allow you to maintain top speeds! So how do you use your arms? The most important step is to keep your arms relax and loose, almost like holding a potato chip, where you should never clench your hands (which would break the potato chip). This is because once you clench your fist, you body will tend to automatically tighten, thus causing you to lose the motion in your arms as well as your strides, which would all take more energy to burn to get back what you lose.

Running fast is not just about going through the motion of putting your legs forward quicker. It includes conducting other steps which helps you get faster at running. Thus, to truly improve running speed, one would have to follow specific techniques to be able to get faster at running. This would include drinking more water as well as applying a good arm mechanics coordination.
