My Weekend Runs

This is just another weekend. An ordinary winter weekend with all kinds of weather, a few things I have to do and a generous amount of free time. I am sitting here by my computer early Sunday morning. I just had some breakfast, my usual corn flakes with milk, some herbal tea and cod liver oil. The oil is the only food supplement I use. It has the d-vitamins most of us don't get enough of from the food or the sunlight. Now I will give my body a couple of hours to digest the food before I go out for maybe 12km run in the snow.

My running group meets at the fitness club every Saturday at 9:30 pm. It is always fun to meet the others. I guess we are about 30 people who belong to this group, some show up only during summertime, others are there almost every time. Yesterday we were 7, which is normal during winter. It can be fun to meet someone you haven't seen for a while. Yesterday was one of those days when you meet a good friend you haven't seen for a while and you find yourself chatting non stop the entire 14km the group runs because you have a lot to catch up on.

I was up early yesterday and ran 5k by myself before I met the group. That meant I could log 19km yesterday which is fine. The weather was excellent, maybe 7°C and no snow or ice on the streets. We ran along the main road south of town, some of us turned at 5k, some of us continued to the hot water pipe that runs under the road 7 km south of the fitness club where we started. We talked about our summer plans for races and had a lot of fun. Two of us are planning on running their first marathon which is always exciting. I and my friend are planning on running 60 km in the wilderness in west Iceland, not as a part of a race, but just because we would like to explore the country.

Usually I run from home to the fitness club where the running group meets, but yesterday I took the car because I thought I would join the others in the hot tub at the fitness spa. That means I have to take a bag with me and I find that a bit heavy to run with. But after the run no one else was planning on going to the spa so I just drove home again and showered at home.

Today the weather is totally different from yesterday. There is snow everywhere and 0°C. The snow in the trees shows that there has been no wind and I hope it continues that way. I don't like windy weather. I might change the songs on my mp3 player although I don't have any songs I like better on my computer right now. Well... I could purchase some.
