If you want something, you have to do something about it. You can't just wait and hope someone else does it for you. Even if you have learned that you are supposed to be sweet and helpful and all that, it doesn't mean that everyone else thinks it is necessary to be sweet and helpful to you.
After all there are people who think the most important thing on earth is to suck themselves to other people that can look after them. It isn't nearly as important to give something back. They rely on other people to provide them with self esteem. That is them most important part. Which is certainly not going to work in the long run. Or they say to themselves that they do give something back and the other person just deserves what she is getting by making you jealous on purpose or what other excuse the abusive person might find for his/her behavior. And sometimes you just can't change that no matter how sweet and helpful you are.
Of course I think everyone should be sweet and helpful. I try to be that myself. And I try to teach my children to be sweet and helpful. I try to teach them that generally you should act against other people the same way you would like other people to act against you. But I also try to teach them to get lost if someone isn't sweet to them. At least if it goes on and on.
This counts for your health also. You can't rely on strong genes, some machines or some expensive diet program to keep you fit and healthy. And you most certainly can't rely on someone else to keep you healthy. You can't even blame someone else for your bad health. It isn't your mothers fault if you have always been obese. She didn't make you obese on purpose. She would be happy to see you do something about it.
Having a goal is extremely important. Some definition of how you want things to be. Something you actually are able to do some time. A clearly defined goal. Like being able to run a whole marathon on august the 18th. Or like weighing 65 kilos or less at a given date in the future. A vague goal like "loosing weight sometimes" is useless. Or "using the car less". What are you going to do instead? Think about what you want. Clearly defined goals and clearly defined methods to get there are my mantra.
Learning about having goals/and what they and you can do to achieve success, really should be part or home and school learning's. I use to work at a day care, and whenever a chance presented itself, I try to present those lovely youngsters with challenges that required some effort on their part, and also reinforced the outcome a bit so that they would see what they can do.
This is awesome content Frida, goals are our destinations and are a great reason for champagne popping and celebrating.
It is good to know when one has a reason to pop champagne
I agree with you about the importance of having specific goals. I am on Weight Watchers, and I have a goal weight. I plan to participate in some 5K walks, so I am working on building up endurance so I can do them and still feel good afterwards.
Thanks for your encouragement. The 5K's did not go as well as I expected. I was doing other kinds of exercise. I missed one of the 5K's by arriving too late. Then I went to one 5K, and boy, I was sore afterwards and all the next day. I enjoy doing weeding and dancing, so I don't always walk. I made progress with Weight Watcher's, though. I was at the same weight for a couple weeks, then I dropped 1 1/'2 pounds. I finally went below 160 pounds.
Those comments inspire me to write another article on goals. Thanks everyone :)
Great article, having a goal is like a road map and without it all can become and stay confusing. Not having a goal is like trying to drive from California to New York without a map. Thank you
A part of deciding on a goal is also to choose which way to go to achieve that goal
The importance of having a goal is a vital step in achieving your goal. You have to go after what you want. Be willing to do what is necessary to accomplish your goal. I agree you have to do something about it. That something is taking action. Use reverse planning to reach your goal. Break it down into little steps that will get you to where you want to be. Great article and it is something that everyone that wants to be successful or accomplish a certain thing that they want in life must go after. I remember my son wanted this certain bicycle. I told him that he would have to save his money and that we would work on a plan so he could accomplish his goal to get the bike. The bike cost $200. So we figured out how many small jobs in the neighborhood he would have to perform in order to get the money that he needed. He broke it down into small steps to reach his goal. He then took action and never quit until he had that Bicycle. He had that bike as the wallpaper on the computer and would just stair at it for hours. I got to give him credit. He clean yards and shoveled a lot of snow to reach his goal. He was around 10 years old at the time. This article deserves a tweet.
