Speed kills. Every athlete has heard that saying eventually and for the most part it is true. This is why speed and agility drills are so important to do. Most sports are team sports but usually the team who can win the one on one battles end up winning most of the time. This is how superstars are made. They cause matchup problems for other teams because they are virtually impossible to cover. For example, Jerry Rice in his prime would cause so many problems for defenses because there were few guys who could keep up with his athletic ability.

Speed and agility drills should be considered one of the most important objectives within your workout. You should conduct a few drills twice a week and make sure you focus on your form. Quality is KING not quantity when it comes to speed exercises. You need to train your body to do it the right way first. Performing the speed and agility drills slowly first will let your body get use to the movement. This is very important because if your body can’t perform it right slowly then it won’t perform it right at full speed, as your body starts to understand what muscle movements are needed you should increase intensity in those particular speed exercises.

Depending on what sport you are playing should depict which speed and agility drills you would want to do.  A lot of sports are non-linear so of course you want your speed drills non-linear too. Focus on drills that really emphasis your first 3 step burst. If we really want to micro manage this we can. Speed Kills but whoever has the fastest 3 step burst slaughters. The faster you can change directions the more dominate you will be. So you really should be focusing on speed and agility drills that really will increase that 3 step burst of yours.

To recap through the article, Speed and agility drills  need to be done with quality not quantity. Your speed exercises  should focus on aspects that you would regular deal with in your type of sport. For example, a lacrosse player will need to be able to change direction quickly where as a track runner needs to be able to run longer at maximum velocity. Speed and agility drills should be done a minimum twice a week and should be taken seriously as it is the only way to truly better yourself to get to the next level. Remember just because you weren’t born fast doesn’t mean you can’t be fast.
