Wearing A Hat During Runs
Join 1000's of Authors at StreetArticles Today!

During this time of the year, most people want to wear a hat during a run, unless they have a tremendous pain tolerance toward the cold. You will want to wear a hat during the winter to prevent hypothermia. A hat is one of the pieces of running gear in which you will want to invest when you are starting to run to lose weight.

During the winter, you will want to wear knit-style beanie hat, as it is far too cold to think about wearing a baseball cap (especially since you cannot cover your ears with a baseball hat). Virtually every store which sells winter clothing will carry some sort of beanie hat; finding a store that sells those hats should not constitute a problem. I will discuss for what type of beanies you should look.

Obviously, get a hat that fits. When you are pouring in miles, you want to wear a hat that does not bother you and distract you from your run. A hat with a large logo may get annoying after a few miles; try to get one with a conservative logo.

I see two main types of knit hats which are made: thick and thin ones. The think ones will be warmer sooner in you runs because of their thickness. The catch-22 is that they may become too warm later on during your runs. Also, because they are thick, they are bigger which ostensibly means less wind resistant. The thinner ones usually are the more technically made hats, which may be a tad cooler during the runs, but do not take much time to heat up. Conversely, they are more wind resistant because they are thinner.

A fairly significant difference between technical and non-technical hats are the materials with which they are made. Technical hats now include materials which when you sweat, actually help to retain the heat. Plus, they divert the swear away, so if you are walking after your run in the frigid cold, it will keep you drier and decrease the chances of you getting sick.

Perhaps if you want the newest hat with the newest features, you can turn to the top of the line athletics companies, but generally you will not need to go that route because of their price. But, those hats look very neat.
