Why Is Commonly Used By Athletes?

Athletic tape is certainly no joke and that is one reason why it is been widely used by the athletes. It is quite helpful in reducing the risk of injury. It has been years since athletes are using different types of sports tapes throughout the world but the Athletic tape is the one that is now seen in the locker room of every sportsman.

The purpose of athletic tape

It is normally taped down the tendons and the muscles for providing support to the athlete. It provides relieve against sore and injured bones or ligaments. The tape has white cloth backing which provides protection and prevention against possible injuries. When the muscles get structured support, they do not ache no matter what physical activity you are involved in.

Athletic tapes are available in different types. Kinesio tape is one of them, which is actively used by many Olympic players and athletes because of many reasons. This tape is different, it is thinner, and it is easier to wrap around the muscles and the stretched skin. It is also capable of healing the pain without putting any strain on the muscles. The tape has subtle elastic properties and you can keep on wearing it for several days. You will not have to worry about spending time re-tapping yourself.

The tape has to be applied in wave patterns so that it can align and provide support to the joints and the ligaments. A good quality tape can be left for 3 to 5 days without any need of replacement. You don’t really need a physician for this purpose, you can easily apply the tape yourself too.

Athletic tape can be restrictive and this is one reason why the athletes use it for pre-wrap for protecting and providing breather and free movement to the skin. If you use an under wrap, the adhesive of the tape will not stick to your skin. Professionals don’t just tape their bodies after they get injured or stretch out a muscle, they tape it prior to the game or practice so that they can ensure prevention and protection beforehand.

Tips to use the tape

Here are some tips that you must follow before you use the athletic tape:

• Don’t use it on those areas of the skin that are hypersensitive

• If you have psoriasis, dermatitis or eczema at some area, don’t use the tape there

• If you are going through a medical treatment, ask your doctor before using it.

• Don’t tape over the sunburn area

• Make sure you have not used any moisturizer on the skin before you tape

• Don’t tape wrinkled skin i.e. feet or hands

• If after wrapping the tape, you feel needles, pins or numbness, it is recommended to remove the tape.

• When it is time to change the tape, instead of peeling it off, cut it off.

Be sensible while you are using this tape because it is not a cure to everything. You have to be sure that you choose the one, which is meant for this job.
