Being an avid network marketer myself, I can certainly relate to the fear of the phone. Many times, we rely on e-mail and all kinds of other "impersonal" methods to market ourselves. The reason is twofold: We hate the word "No" and we (secretly) fear success. We're afraid of the added responsibilities that would come our way if we actually achieved what we wanted business-wise. So, we avoid what I call your "at-home ATM machine"......the phone.
The ironic thing is that personal contact is the most ideal way to gather prospects and customers. We live in the information age and are bombarded every minute by advertising. In truth, we simply tune most of it out. It's not hard to understand why other people would also tune US out if we do nothing but e-mail them.
But what if there were a way to eliminate (or at least minimize) your fear of the phone? Wouldn't your results increase exponentially? I would dare say yes. Even those with genuine phobias concerning phone prospecting will find what I am about to describe as doable. It's a 30-day Action Plan that will, quite likely, remove your phone fears completely.
Ok. Here we go. I assume (yes, dangerous, I know) that you have The List. The people you have identified to contact about whatever your offering is. It could be 100 people or 500 (hello, Facebook?) people. The principle is the same. On Day 1, you simply call 1 person on that list. If you get their voice mail, leave a message to call you back. That's it...1 person...you're done.
Once you realize that lightning did not strike, and you're still breathing, pat yourself on the back for a job well done. The next day, Day 2, you will contact 2 people. On Day 3, contact 3 people. Continue the process through Day 10. How many people will you contact on Day 10? You got it....10.
For each of the first 10 days, the whole process should take no more than 5-15 minutes, especially if you're doing nothing more than referring them to a website. During this time, you should also be adding Facebook friends and learning other ways of generating phone numbers.
Continue the process through Day 30, with the number of the day corresponding to the number of people you should call. That would mean on Day 30, you would contact 30 people! That's more people in one day than most network marketers contact in an entire month!
Quite honestly, you could simply maintain a "10 people per day" calling plan from Day 11 onward. That would equal 200 people in a 20-working-day month. At a 10% closing ratio, that's 20 new customers for you on a monthly basis.
All the best,
Scott
