Chemistry Set for Kids - Safety Issues

If you purchase a chemistry set for kids you will notice instantly how much excitement they can bring. When I purchased one for my son as one of his christmas gifts I was reasonably pleased with myself when I saw how pleased he was with it however, this did not last long. When I opened the set with him I was at once a little worried at the amount of materials and chemicals.

If you purchase a chemistry set for kids you should know that most of them are designed to be as safe as possible for the children. Once you purchase a chemistry set for kids the first thing you should do is examine the label that covers the safety issues.

The experiments are designed by qualified scientists and are typically very safe, after all they do allow children to mix chemicals together so all safety aspects will be covered. The chemistry set box will always indicate what age group it is safe for. The instructions provided with the chemistry set should also be pointed out to the children as a safety device. Show them the warning pictures about wearing safety goggles etc. and alert them to the fact that these instructions must be followed at all times.

It's worth teaching youngsters using a chemistry set for kids because it is in a controlled chemistry environment. When the youngsters arrive at secondary ( High ) school the chemistry lessons may not be so controlled and these early chemistry lessons will put them on solid ground.

A more advanced chemistry set for kids ( teenagers ) will need adult supervision at times to be considered 'safe'. Alcohol burners are often included in these more advanced chemistry set for kids and these should really not be used by a young teenager if they are alone.

The ability to follow instructions carefully is a very important lesson that can be learned from a chemistry set for kids. The chemicals included in these sets are relatively harmless when mixed but it is worth pointing out to the youngster that this is not always the case. More professional chemicals can lead to dangerous outcomes and this is something they really need to be aware of.

The instructions will also indicate to you which experiments will need the safety gear worn. A chemistry set for kids will always come with at least one set of goggles and one pair of safety gloves so make sure they are used.
