Guide to A Game Of Thrones, George Rr Martin And Asoiaf

DON'T PANIC! Those large soothing letters should allow you to bear with me trough the rest of this article. For a while now I'm writing about George RR Martin and his work, it is the topic for me, and I like writing about it. Lots of things related to George RR Martin happened in this year, Game of Thrones TV series on HBO was a big success, and on the wings of popularity of series his last book " A Dance with Dragons", was among bestseller novels for many weeks. Many people, however, never before had any kind of experience with this franchise, and started to take interest after watching the show on TV.

This is for you newbie's:

As seen in series, Martin imagined world drastically different from ours in many ways, but at a same time similar in also many ways. Best described as something of a mixture between classical fantasy and medieval society of western Europe, it is very original in it's concept. Beside unique and very well pictured world, main strength of his books are his characters.

Each chapter is told from the POV of many major and minor characters. And you must read the book to believe when I say this, they are portrayed in magnificent way, making this worth the title of classical literature.

Book itself has earned many awards in the field of Fantasy, and reached status of bestseller on 2011, because of renewed interest HBO adaptation brought to the book.

Story is evolving around House of Stark, old and noble house from the north of the land of Westeros. In this world changing of the seasons is irregular, with summers and winters lasting for many years. Lord Eddard Stark is expecting a royal guests, his old friend King Robert is visiting him with a special request…

A little about George RR Martin:

A veteran in the field of fantasy, with many novels, screenplays and stories written and published prior to A Game of Thrones.

There are many other products connected to his work, A Game of Thrones most of all. There is comic book, trading card, board and role-playing game, and off course TV series.

What ASoIaF means?

A Song of Ice and Fire - fantasy books series written by George RR Martin, in which there five books for now - seven is planned. They are as follows: A Game of Thrones, A Clash of Kings, A Storm of Swords, A Feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons.

TV series A Game of thrones is based on the first book with the same name, second season will be on the next and so on…

My Point Of View:

There are many products connected to the franchise, books mainly, but also t-shirts, cups, calendars, even swords made to resemble the ones described in the books. Thanks to the large popularity of TV series, many products emerged on the market, phrases from the books, stuff connected to the popular actors that played in the series.

This franchise is something which is going to last. There are many products connected to this genre, and there are many authors with work similar to Martins, but this is something I find closest to my taste.

Hope you find this article helpful, if there is something else about TV series, books, Epic Fantasy or any other thing don't be too shy to ask, I'm looking forward to answer any question or remark you might have.
