There are many great sci fi books out on the market today but which ones are the best? With all of the new, exciting authors coming out, it can be hard choosing an author. A new author you will enjoy in the sci fi / fantasy genre is Brandon Sanderson. He has written a few books that are truly amazing.

The first novel you should read is called Elantris. In this stand-alone novel, Sanderson tells a story about how magic and kings rule the world. In this world is a place called Elantris. The people who are known as Elantrians are like demi-gods. Their hair is white and their skin is silver and they can use a certain type of magic to do practically anything. Everyone considered Elantrians as special and holy until one day when everything changed.

The once beautiful city of Elantris has turned to ruins and the once beautiful people of Elantris have become hideous, rotting creatures that are unable to live or die. Living in a world between life and death, the Elantrians and Elantris are now considered cursed. No one dares to enter the cursed city for fear that the curse will spread to the neighboring kingdoms. Elantris is now locked from the outside so no Elantrian can escape. Everything seems hopeless until a brave prince becomes ill with the curse. Sanderson takes us on a journey of this extraordinary prince and his struggle to overcome this obstacle. Elantris is definitely one of the top sci fi books of 2012.

The next set of novels you will enjoy are called the Mistborn Trilogy. In these novels, Sanderson takes us on a journey in a world in which there are two classes of people: the nobility and the poor or Skaa. The nobility are the wealthy descendants from a God-king who also have magical abilities. They, of course, consider themselves superior to the magicless Skaa who are the slaves to the nobility. Sanderson tells the story about hope and the weak overcoming impossible odds.

Brandson Sanderson is an incredible author. His writing style is simply amazing. For those who cannot get enough of Brandon there is no need to fear for he is releasing a new ten-part series called the Stormlight Archives. The first book called The Way of Kings is already out and with lots more books to come in the next few years, fans of Sanderson will continue to enjoy his books for years to come. Sanderson's books easily make up the top sci fi books of 2012.
