3 Crucial Tips to Eliminate Social Anxiety - Your Path to Higher Self - esteem

Tackling your social anxiety will be one of the best decisions of your life. It causes tremendous emotional pain and inhibits you just being able to let loose and live. So how do you go about beginning to eliminate social anxiety and shyness? You're about to find out. Read through and apply these 4 simple, yet effective, tips below.

1. Focus outward on reality. Living with this mindset really changed things for me and reduced my anxieties and fears almost instantly. To begin, the purpose of anxiety is to override your conscious control to get you to safety if you sense something that is potentially life threatening. To counter this, begin to try to focus all of your attention on the other person during an interaction. Hold eye contact for as long as you can. If you do this enough, you will begin to realize that there is no danger in talking to or being around other people.

Over time, it will overwrite your subconscious belief to attribute anxiety to social interaction. When I applied this, I would just look around and "people watch" which would a) take focus off of myself and b) make me realize that there is no rational reason to be anxious. It works.

2. Another tool to get over your shyness is to understand what social anxiety is. It is basically a fear of disapproval - a leftover belief from when you were young and helpless. At that period in your life, you interpreted the disapproval of one of your caretakers (or any adult) as potentially life threatening so you still carry that belief in your subconscious. So realize that you can handle disapproval or rejection and that if someone disapproves of what you do or say, then you don't have to let that bother you.

3. Take action. You cannot think your way out of social anxiety and shyness. It can be a support but the only way out is through making decisions and getting things done. Since this affliction and low self-esteem go hand in hand, taking actions to build your sense of self will indirectly help you during social situations. The best way to do this is to work on developing one positive habit. Whether it be going to the gym, looking for jobs every day, or developing a hobby; putting consistent effort into this will not only make you more fulfilled, but it will bleed into your social area in life imbuing you with the confidence that you perceive you lack.

Social phobia can be a real monster. Regardless of how much it affects your life, deciding to get this part of your life handled will be invaluable. Getting over it may be for you to having a new chance at life. I recommend committing yourself fully to getting over this and learning further how to eliminate social anxiety.

You owe it to yourself and your life.
