In order for a person to grow and advance in life it is important for them have a positive opinion of themselves, and life has a way overtime or after a traumatic event to wear this opinion down. It is possible to get self-confidence back and carry yourself with pride and dignity.
To begin this journey back to confidence one must engage in a good dose of self-control. You have to control your emotions, desires and most importantly actions with your own power or will to want to do so. You must develop your ability to have control over your feelings and restrain your reactions. Try preparing for possible emotional events and practice patients. And try not to over react to unfavorable news or other peoples actions.
Breathing is a good exercise to help calm the nerves and give you enough to relax and not over react.
When you begin to show more self-control over your own conduct you will then begin improving your self-esteem. If you continue training yourself for self-improvement through discipline and self-control you will slowly begin to have more confidence. You will be surprised by repeating sentences like "You can do it," or "Only thing stopping you is you." over and over in the mirror at this point, can build more confidence.
When it's all is said and done, all we really want is to feel a sense of our own self-worth or value as a person. So we need to find things we can do to help build up that value, like volunteering or helping others. This will do wonders for giving you a better opinion of yourself. There is nothing like helping another human being who is less fortunate than you, believe me.
And by doing so, you will get a great sense of your own dignity and integrity. You will begin to be worthy of esteem and respect because of your character. Now you can feel it. Now you are starting to feel a sense of purpose. Even when tested under pressure you don't fall beneath your own dignity and lose your self-respect by lying or cheating.
Congratulations! You deserve it because you've come a long way. Temptations will always be there in today’s society and your control and willpower to get to where it is you want to be will constantly be under siege.
Knowing they will always be there and you don't have to act on them now will decrease the sense of urgency and give you a calming effect. This is how it’s done; this is how you get self-confidence and how to get high self-esteem.
Thanks for the input. Positive relationships are important.
