Social Anxiety Self Help - How to Do It Yourself Correctly

If you're struggling with an intense feeling of shyness, then you've probably already done some research on getting over it. With something this painful, you're probably pretty desperate to get rid of it. Therefore, attempting social anxiety self help is a very practical solution. This is something that, with persistence, you can overcome. So how do you go about doing this on your own?

Step one, you need to identify your triggers. Right now, think of and write down 3 situations or behavior that give me most anxiety. For me, it was expressing disapproval or anger, talking to groups of strangers, and making faces. To defeat social anxiety, you must get specific because it likes to appear as some shapeless force that affects "all" areas of life.

Step two, begin exposing yourself to these triggers. Start out small, and increase the duration and intensity of the exposures. However, I advise you to stay doing "normal" things. I don't recommend going streaking or doing illegal or dangerous things. Your mind may try to convince you of some pretty outlandish stuff - all in hopes of keeping you its biatch.

Step three, record each experience. I recommend journalling about each experience. Doing this helps you to compare instances over time thus being able to identify progress.

It's really as simple as that. Notice what I didn't include? Yeah, thought "tricks" or techniques to get out of this. It's a truth that you cannot think your way out of social anxiety. Yes, there may be some things you can do to provide temporary relief. But your social phobia and shyness operates from a subconscious belief that you need experience to wipe out and overwrite.

There have been other, auxiliary things I have done to help speed up the process and make things easier. For one, I began eating better and taking care of myself. I consciously began doing something physical, mental, and emotional that was good for me. Also, floss every day if you do not already.

Another thing is to look for compulsions or negative habits that you have. It's no doubt that social anxiety causes some severe emotional distress, so it is very normal to seek out pleasure to get rid of the pain. However, many addictions can arise and can distract you from dealing with the source of your pain. So I recommend to take a stand and kick any addiction you may have whether it be substance, sex, gambling, gaming, food, etc... This will also give you more energy to focus on your life.
