When it comes to defeating social anxiety for most, it's a tragedy. Why? If most with social phobia knew the correct information and techniques for getting over this disorder, then they could get over it quickly. Just think if no one told you how to drive a car and there weren't any legitimate guides as to how it operates and what the specific buttons and gadgets inside it did. How long do you think it would take you to figure it out? Do you think you might even eventually give up? It's the same with social anxiety. Too many people suffer with it for too long. It is possible to get over it quickly - within months or even weeks - by doing the right stuff.
Here are 5 shortcuts I learned on my road to defeating social anxiety:
1) Smile at your anxiety and depression.
Do you know how to let this disorder win and continue to make you its biatch? Easy. Let it get you upset and let it inhibit you from doing things. Instead of letting your pain and anxiety make you worry and inhibit you, instead smile at it and act anyways. It may be difficult at first, but continue to practice it. It gets power over you if you let it get you upset.
2) Do something uncomfortable daily.
It doesn't matter what it is, but you need to get in the habit of acting against your anxiety. It doesn't have to be huge. It just needs to be consistent. Smiling. Going to the cashier instead of self-checkout. Anything that involves you acting against what your social fears are trying to get you to avoid.
3) Focus on reality.
Most with social phobia are constantly thinking - about what they don't like about themselves, about what they're dreading in future, and about what they want to avoid. Almost all their focus is on everything but the present reality. During your next interaction, focus your attention on the other person. It will immediately reduce your self-consciousness and anxiety and send the message to your subconscious that there is nothing dangerous happening right now.
4) Take good care of yourself.
Eat healthy. Exercise. Do good things for yourself. Good things will follow.
5) Find support.
Try to find 3 people that you can talk to about your recovery. Most with social anxiety are in hiding about their disorder and embarrassed to tell anyone about it. Just telling some trusted people about it will create instant relief and reduce your fears about people. Come out of hiding and you will recover much more quickly.
The reason I tell you these is because I had to slowly learn them while on my own road to recovery. I wish that I had learned these years ago so I wouldn't have spent so many years going in circles and doing counterproductive things. Regardless, I want to help people like you overcome their disorder because it is simple to do and life is infinitely better for doing so. So, today, take charge of your life and begin defeating social anxiety the quickest way.
Good points, and they will work every time. We are the masters of our minds, and can train the mind to change it patterns...
