Boxer The Smart Owners Guide

I recently purchased the book "Boxer-The Smart Owners Guide" I am always a bit skeptical about buying breed specific titles as they tend to be very broad and sometimes they don't have that much information that your really looking for as far as your particular breed goes especially when it comes to training and obedience they all just stick to following the same generic dog training.

Contents

The book has plenty of information including, history of the breed, diet tips, boxers almanac - history of the boxer breed, choosing your boxer, health issues, and a lot of useful tips and facts all through the book. If your thinking about getting a boxer for a pet then a great book to give you the straight forward no nonsense facts and the pros and cons of owning the breed.

Illustrations

The book is beautifully illustrated plenty of great boxer dog pictures, I'm a very visual person and love looking at all those beautiful boxer doggies so that's pretty important to me. Shows off the different breed colours and it wouldn't be a boxer book if it didn't have all those adorable puppy pictures! Very good for younger readers too!

Did I find the book interesting?

One thing I liked about the book was it was very straight to the point and easy to read, I liked the description of the boxer dog on the second page

"The boxer dog will remind you of the athletic jock you knew at school who managed to score touchdowns on the football field and straight As on his exams. With a heart of gold and easygoing attitude, he's living proof that nice guys can and do finish first"

This description really summed up the boxer personality and spirit for me. There's plenty of reference throughout the book of personal encounters of owners, trainers and breeders which kept my interest going and gave the book a more personal touch, again not just droning on about generic training referring to actual boxer dogs and owners.

Every second page they have included specific facts and did you know notes to spur your interest on also, anything from did you know that many celebrities in the 1940's and 1950's owned boxers for example Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall (often pictured with her 3 boxers), Bing Crosby and a few more famous actors and performers to the prime period for socialization for boxer puppies is between 10 and 14 weeks to develop a sound temperament.

My Opinion

Overall I found the Boxer - Smart Owners Guide book easy to read, interesting and well illustrated. I found that it good value for money as far as the purchase price went and have no doubt that I will keep referring back to the book which means its not going to collect dust on my book shelf which says it all at the end of the day. So would I recommend this book to buy - Yes!
