Biggest Regrets

We all have regrets from our past, whether it's things we did, or things we wish we did. In my case, I wished I would have played football in high school. Unfortunately, my cross country coach forbid me from playing due to the huge injury risk. It really didn't help that I'm not the biggest guy (I'm about 5 foot 8). Even then, I wish I would have played at least my senior year.

I also regret not going to UC Berkeley when I had the chance. I got accepted to that school my senior year thanks to my 4.2 GPA, but I didn't pursue the opportunity due to money. I didn't qualify for most of the scholarships I applied for, and the tuition and living expenses at Berkeley are insane. Either way, I wish I would have gone to school there. I often wonder what my life would have been like if I would have gone anyways.

I also regret giving up in community college about 3 years ago. I had a good enough GPA to be able to transfer to USC, but I got very depressed due to issues I was having with my girlfriend at the time, and my grades tanked in the worst way. USC then went out of the picture, and I couldn't have been more disappointed.

I wish I would have been able to work things out with my high school sweetheart. I really didn't know what I was doing since it was my first real relationship, so I made a lot of mistakes. I never cheated on her or anything like that, but there were times in which I was disrespectful and it ended up costing me big time. I ended up losing her to another guy, and it hurt really bad. Oh well, you live and you learn.

In hindsight, All these past regrets are what has led me to be where I'm at today. I'm still young enough to live the life I want to live, and for that I'm very thankful. If I would've gone to Berkeley I wouldn't have met the friends that I have now, and I probably would be thousands of dollars in debt due to student loans. Ouch. But yes, I try not to think about my past regrets, but I'm human, and sometimes those past thoughts sneak in there once in a while. I cannot wait to see what the future has for me. I've learned a lot from my past regrets, and I will do everything I can to make sure I don't regret anything in the future.

Sometimes things you do aren't misstakes they are the right choise for that time. Some might say that me and my exhusband should have stayed friends but he was right at that time and I have two beautiful children with him and he is still my bestfriend. We growed apart. My now other half, we have known each other for over 20 years and back then he and I weren't suited for eachother but we have changed through out our life and today we are very well suited and have a brilliant relationship, he has an additional 3 kids which I'm fortunate to be there and experince them growing up as well. Like you say it shapes us, so no regrets.

Great Article! It is important to let out our feelings of sadness or anger when we feel regret. If we do so with the intention of moving forward, it can help us to stop revisiting those feelings of regret over and over. I know that when I have regret (in the midst of anger and sadness) I try to see what I can learn about myself from this. Sharing these personal feelings has got to make you feel better. Look where you are today Roberto. Keep up the amazing work!
