Green Technologies: The Wave Of What Is To Come In The World Of Green
Join 1000's of Authors at StreetArticles Today!

We celebrated the very first Earth Day way back in the 1970’s. Back then, green technologies barely got a second glance- but now you can barely pick up a paper, read an online article or listen to a news report without at least some mention of a new green concept, idea or invention that is in development.

Things that might have seemed like science fiction many years ago are now commonly accepted. We do curbside recycling in nearly every neighborhood in the country. Schools, offices and huge corporations are recycling a variety of items and children are growing up with the reduce, reuse and recycle mantra.

New concepts are coming every day- sometimes new and better ways to do old things, some just new from the ground up, but either way, they all bear some notice. New innovations and developments are being looked into to save the planet, money and reduce and eventually end our dependence on foreign oil.

Solar energy, wind energy and water energy are all methods that have been in use at some level for years, but new ways of collecting, storing and using these technologies are always in development.

We all know that reducing the amount of gas and oil that we use to travel back and forth to all of the places we need to go is a priority. Bio-diesel, new fuel cells and cars that run on electricity and water are all being developed and refined every year. For every gas hog car that is taken off of the road and replaced with a more energy efficient, eco-friendly vehicle is that much better for the earth. Imagine replacing the normal gasoline you use to fuel your car with previously used cooking oil!

But, what other technologies are available to the consumers and what are on the horizon but not quite ready for widespread use yet? Look for technologies such as:

1. Energy storage. While solar, wind and water energy is fairly cost effective to manufacture, the trouble comes in from needing to store it for future usage. Look for this to be one of the most talked about and fastest growing technologies in the coming years.

2. New bio-fuel sources. Corn was the darling of this technological breakthrough several years ago- look for new sources to come to the forefront, including the plentiful and seemingly insignificant algae.

Green technologies will come and go- some will catch on and some will prove to be economic and logistical flops. As long as there are needs, there will be developments. Some are bound to be good ones, not only for consumers but for the earth as well.
