You can compare trying to lose weight, to stopping smoking. A smoker sets a day to quit but then two days later, has a relapse and starts smoking again. It’s exactly the same thing when you are trying to lose weight because you find that you have a sudden relapse and suddenly you are eating the wrong sort of foods. In reality trying to be perfect makes you give in even before you’re got going.
When you are learning to ride a bike, at first you fall off but you don’t give up do you No! you just get straight back into the saddle and try again and again until you do it right. If you apply this technique to weight loss or stopping smoking than you can see that it might take a number of tries, but that if you persist then you will succeed.
It is fairly common to suffer with relapses when trying to be disciplined about accomplishing something. Relapses are something that are, and are most likely to happen, to us all, in some aspects of our lives.
When you try to be perfect in your lives, then this is likely to trigger procrastination and when you procrastinate over something, it means you can get stuck in a frozen state. Being in a frozen procrastination state means that, you might struggle and struggle to get started on your weight loss or your stop smoking plan.
If you are someone who tries to be perfect, think about where that might be coming from. Very often if you look back to your childhood you maybe remember when you were told that you weren’t, good enough by someone. You might have heard those words from other people and then you began to mirror them into your adulthood.
You are older and wiser now and need to ignore those negative words and replace them with some positive words of encouragement to yourself.
By getting started and overcoming your relapses, you will achieve success.
