Today I am going to discuss two basic but very important Search Engine Optimization (SEO) techniques, detailing exactly what to do and how to do it.
Like you might have known, there are two basic optimization techniques namely:
On-page optimization and
Off-page optimization
What is on-page optimization and how is it carried out?
This refers to what you are doing on your website that will please the search engines or prove that you have a standard website.
This will make search engine bots to pick up your site and show to the world because they think that you know what to do, they think you are running your site as a professional.
The sweet side of it is that they do this free for you. The same exposure (and implied traffic), that people are paying heavily for; you can get it free for doing things the right way.
Hey, don’t shake at that word – professional. What I am referring to here is very simple and anyone who can read and write can do it with ease.
Let’s take for instance, your website is selling ‘dog food’, to get Google to rank your page high for this keyword, it must have the word ‘dog food’ in the title of your website. Getting your keyword in the H1, H2 Meta Tags is very crucial to getting your page to rank high naturally.
Similarly, whatever articles you have on your page must have these same keywords on the title, first paragraph, middle and the last paragraph.
Also take care that you don’t do what is ‘keyword stuffing’ – that is spreading your keywords all over the article that it will be too obvious that you are gunning for the search engine attention. This will result in Google banning your site outright.
The second technique is known as off-page optimization.
This refers to all the things you are doing to increase the ranking of your webpage that are not carried out directly on your webpage.
Whenever you link your blog website to another website, you are doing off-page optimization. This same thing is true when other sites link to your own.
When so many sites link to yours, Google and other search engines see you as an authority site and the will rank your page high for your chosen keyword.
There are other search engine optimization techniques used but the gurus, but they do not in any way override these basic ones you must do on your website first before any other.
