If you depend on SEO to appear higher in the search results, pay close attention. Google and Bing are working on a plan to attack the websites that focuses too much on SEO, or over optimization, and keyword spamming than providing good quality content to their users.
Matt Cutts recently talked about this in a meeting with people from Google and Bing and he has several engineers on his team working on it now. They are looking to do this in the next month or in a few weeks. They want to help mom and pop sites who don’t rely heavily on SEO or who doesn’t have the knowledge of optimizing their sites and that have good quality content a chance at appearing higher in the search engine results. They are also attacking those who have shady backlinks and those who exchange too many links.
This update is not going to affect a person who provides great content; it is going to help them. But to the ones who have always relied on SEO, they have a chance to make some changes before this takes place in the next few weeks. The best thing for anyone to do to get visitors and traffic is to share content through social media like Facebook or YouTube, write articles, link your sites to high authority websites, and blog. Don’t rely on search engines for all of your traffic.
You want to also make sure you are not stuffing a bunch of keywords in your content and on your websites. If you do this, Google will know and your page may rank in the bottom of the results or not at all. Also if you use too many keywords, your articles and content will not sound right or make any sense and your content will not be of any help to anyone. So it is very important you focus on quality of content and not quantity of keywords.
Think of it like this; would your grandmother understand what you have on your website? See Google is aiming to provide results your grandma wants to see and Google is going to protect grandma and their users from spam, scams, and junk they are not interested in. if you don’t think your grandma would understand what you have on your site or can easily navigate through your site, you may need to make a change and make it quickly because Google and Bing are in full force on cracking down on all websites who are in violation of too much SEO.
This article was certainly timely given the changes in April 2012 that immediately followed, wasn't it?
