Today, if you run a quick search on what was the worlds best search engine Google, you come across some results pulled out of Google+. Previously, Google's search engine results were mostly based on SEO and keywords, even after the big Panda update which took place sometime last year. Nevertheless, the search results weren't that much social as to say.
Google are trying to incorporate the search results with their new social network Google+. Not only Google+ but also other sites related to them for example Picas, Photo-Bucket and others. This may be a step attempting to popularize their social network but a big step-back for the Google search engine. Basically what this means is, the results of your Google search will be brought up depending on how close a link is to you. Let me expound.
If you have someone on your circles searching 'how to make extra cash online' and you later run the same search, whatever that person clicked on or commented on will be involved in your search results. Furthermore, his/her profile link will show up somewhere in the results. Just terrible isn't it?
Many people are now crying foul about the update. It just changes everything. "After the Panda updates, now this. What could possibly be next?" That's the question on most marketers' mind's The whole SEO world has totally changed in less than a week. Sounds hard to believe? Test it with a quick Google search and see it for yourself.
Over the decades, Google has proven to be the best search engine of all times. When it started, it was completely phenomenal. Anyone with access to the internet could search for anything and anyone and be sure to get a result. Updates were done and soon, people could even search for other things like videos, news, images and much more. Slowly, other sites got the same content and tried it.
Yahoo! Did a pretty good job but it was simply not as favored as Google. Ask, Moreover and others were as well started but none matched to Google's outreach. Google simply ran and made the internet what it is. Ask yourself how many times in a day you run a Google search. I don't know about you but for me, its simply countless!
Sooner than later, another search engine came along, Bing. Microsoft had decided to join in on the game and try take down Google. Sadly, their efforts were futile. As a mater of fact, Bing had a very rocky start. It had countless errors among other nasty things people didn't like. Nevertheless, they still made their improvements and got the second ranking in the SE world.
Now, back to the new Google thing. For sometime, Bing have been following Google closely. Now, with these new changes, Bing may have just scooped the top position. Google made a terrible mistake trying to advertise their social network like that. It makes a great difference in the internet world. I don't know about you, but for me, I am beginning to SEO more on Bing than Google. New SEO methodssimply have to be practiced.
The mainstream of internet users simply don't like the new Google. Something should be done about it.
I think we should wait on judging the results of Google's big G+ experiment. As their authorship / agent rank rolls out I think we'll begin to see better and better results from the big G. Problem is they've rolled out only a fraction of the infrastructure needed to make the system work for everyone. Right now it only works for a few.
I completely agree with your article. For a while I have been thinking that the great big G have become a bit big for their own boots. With that said I still enjoy the big G but their search results are favoured towards their own business. Youtube, G+, etc etc. Also now with social sites taking the web over I think that more independent search engines give a better result for a search then the Google. Great article confirming what I have thought for a while. Thanks Jason
Interesting article. Especially, when you said: "Many people are now crying foul about the update. It just changes everything. "After the Panda updates, now this. What could possibly be next?"' I thought the internet, was all about change? What's exciting, faster, better, and easier to use, new thing. But, when the changes occur then the herd want to "cry foul" as you say and call for the "old' to be back the way it use to be. Well, I say suck it up! Learn what the new rules are and then 'adapt' to the new changes. That's the only way to get ahead in this life, period! Google is here to make money The same as you and I are. When Google's customers make money, they continue to use products like Adwords, Adsense, etc. When advertisiers make money they continue advertising with Google. Actually, it really is a win-win-win situation for everyone involved!
Well said Jackie. But better yet, build a business that doesn’t depend entirely on one thing like Google. Don’t lay all your eggs in one basket. Diversity your traffic sources and find ways to attract and retain repeat visitors.
