Quality Content Vs Search Engine Optimization

Combining high quality content and search engine optimization can seem like a tricky balancing act for new online writers like myself. I can either look at both as a necessary evil or an organic part of the writing process.

I tend to lean toward the latter.

Either way, creating fresh material that adds value to the reader is S.E.O. and S.E.O. is creating fresh material. Like a strong, healthy marriage, it seems, the two shall not part.

Now, I realize all of these facts in my mind, but not in my heart.

In order to write on subjects I’m passionate about, there are times when I have to forget about Google and its algorithms and just write.

Looking up keywords to see if they have low competition but a high amount of searches doesn’t always work for me. I may not gain a lot of readers or a huge following this way, but I believe it’s worth forgoing the business side of S.E.O., sometimes, so that I can just enjoy the act of writing.

With the crackdown of spam and duplicate content sites in full swing, it’s more important than ever to write content for people not just for sites like Google.

To write in such a way that serves an unselfish purpose is challenging at times, but not impossible. Sometimes we can get so caught up with the business side of things, we tend to forget about people and we fail to consider what they’re getting out of reading our content.

I’m not discounting the business side of it, as writing is not a hobby for me. It’s something I enjoy that I’d also like to support myself with one day. But I have to constantly remind myself of why I write and of my motives for writing.

Let’s face it, this job isn’t always a cake walk. Combining interesting prose with S.E.O. is a task that’s easier said than done.

There are times when I can write several articles in a few hours. And then there are those times when writing takes a lot more effort. At that point, I have to take a break from what I’m doing and come back to it later. The last thing I’m thinking about is S.E.O.

My goal is to write aIuthentic prose that will serve to enrich, enlighten, educate, and perhaps even entertain the reader. From my experience so far, I believe those concepts come from the act of continuing to write from my heart. It just seems more genuine that way to me.

Some are born with a natural writing talent, others (like myself) have to learn it over time. The more I practice my skills, the better I’ll become at developing those skills.

Besides, I can’t be the only person passionate about a given subject. There must be other people who feel the same as I do who will resonate with it, regardless if I’ve practiced the business side of writing or not.

I guess what I’m trying to say is, I’m developing my own writing style and I think that’s a good thing. What works for one person may not work for the next but the marriage between quality content and search engine optimization lives on. That’s a good thing, too.

*Update: I recently completed watching a webinar entitled "S.E.O Checklist Cheatsheet". The presentation gave step-by-step instructions on how to create a website from scratch while incorporating S.E.O that will quickly get it ranked in Google. It was an excellent video!

Agree Sonya. I used to worry about keyword density, and repeating the keyword phrase throughout the article. Now I just write, using the keyword phrase at the beginning and at the end of the article. Rely now on LSI. Also write outside of my niche about topics I feel are very important to communicate. Your articles are very natural and interesting. They have a nice flow, good info, and I look forward to reading them.

Sonya, you just described a lot of my feelings about writing articles. Sometimes I, like you, just forget all about it and enjoy the act of writing. Nice thoughts.
