Search Engine Optimisation; What Is It?

So let’s return to essentials, what does it stand for? SEO is an acronym of Search Engine Optimisation, which is about getting your internet site to the top of SERP.

People use search engines like Google to find items or even web sites they are searching for, if you need anything you more than likely ‘Google it’. Google, as well as all the other big search engines for that matter, are on a quest to bring their visitors associated and also high quality results.

To make results in google increasingly more useful, online search engines use algorithms. Algorithms are complex ‘sets of rules’, the search engines like Yahoo scrape your internet site using ‘spiders’ searching for keywords and phrases together with links to your site to ‘rate’ your website applying the algorithm. Internet sites are ranked influenced by keywords and phrases and keyword positioning, authority as well as reputation.

So What do the ‘spiders’ search for?

The optimisation involves on page and off page. On page optimisation is focused on tweaking the web sites source code (planting specific key phrases into particular elements of html), body text optimisation (improving key phrase density), internal link optimisation (making sure backlinks point properly with optimised anchor text is hugely important!)

The off page optimisation is focused on improving the reputation of a website, by using methods including quality link-building, website article distribution, and yellow pages style listing submissions. Not that long ago Search engine optimisation simply delivered a large number of backlinks pointing to a site, which did massively raise search positions but this is now considered a *black hat method so you will probably be penalised with really low rankings!

There are Two Forms of SEO, But What Exactly Are They?

The two kinds of SEO are white hat and black hat. White hat are the good guys and black hat are the bad!

White hat (aka ethical SEO) is the use of approved SEO methods so that you can get higher rankings, more page views, etc.

Black hat is un-ethical and is what a lot of spammers and scammers employ to cheat their websites to the top. Black hatters could have opening results but will get penalised promptly and will be ‘sandboxed’.
