One of the most common SEO Techniques talked about in this day and age is the proper use of keyword density. You have probably found yourself askin this one question: "Is keyword density important?"
In this article I am going to be discussing what keyword density is, the false rumors that are commonly believed, and then I will reveal the truth.
So What Is Keyword Density?
Keyword density, in its simplest form of explanation, is a common "so-called" seo technique in which you make sure that your targetted key phrase appears in your article, page, post, or website a certain amount of times.
Basically it is the ratio of "keywords" versus "total amount of words" in the page.
For example, if you have the keyword in a 500 word page 5 times, then your keyword density is that of 1%. One time for every 10 words.
What Are The Rumors And Common False Beliefs?
It is often taught, and widely believed, that you should keep your keyword density to about 3%. This number varies slightly but that is not important.
Just about anywhere that supposedly teaches Seo Techniques and / or how to get your website ranked will tell you this or something close to that effect.
Is Keyword Density Important? The Truth Revealed!
So the big question now is this. Is Keyword density actually important.
Well, I promised to reveal the truth on this matter so here it is. Yes. And no.
What I mean is this. It is important to have your target word or phrase present in the page. However, there is no need to count because there is no "magic number". Google said so themselves. Allow me to explain what I do, and believe you need to do, to achieve high search engine rankings.
- You will need to have your keyword in your H1 heading. The code for this is yourkeywordhere
- You will need that phrase or word in the first paragraph of your page or article.
- Include the key phrase somewhere within the title of your article or post.
- If you have a resource box, be sure to include the phrase or word twice within that box, both linking to your site.
- Be sure that this phrase is also in your url, and if not then put it in your permalink, this will count just as well in many cases. Better than nothing.
As for the rest of the article, you need to just be sure to write naturally. Be sure to make your content user friendly more so than search engine friendly. This means read the article yourself, if you were doing a search for that keyword, would this be information that you would want to read? Is it interesting or boring. Interesting and compelling is the key to any marketer.
Congratulations, you are now on the right path to getting your online business ranked in search engines using real seo techniques that are proven to work.
I hope this has been an informative article on keyword density. If you already knew this information, then you may be ready to move on to more advanced seo techniques.
Good information shared well. Thanks! Quality content is important but if you ignore SEO too much you lose out. Keyword density is something I need to work more on...
Keyword density still plays a role although it is minimal compared to the power it once had. Sound advice on the positioning of your keywords. At the core of SEO, Google is looking for quality content and this does not come down to keywords necessarily. They understand LSI principles (natural writing) and will be able to tell if your writing is quality and not "keyword stuffed" so focus on the keyword within the title and initial paragraph as you stated and then write naturally.
