Coming up a year ago, I embarked upon learning how to coupon. At the start, it wasn't easy. There was much to learn, and it often felt discouraging. Now, however, I am at a place where couponing can actually be fun and even somewhat easy. To be sure, learning how to use coupons comes with an intense learning curve, but after you learn, it becomes somewhat second nature.
Getting Items for Free
I think a big reason of why couponing can be enjoyable is because the rewards are real. For example, you actually can get items for free. I never would have dreamt this, but it's actually true. The trick is to combine store sales with coupons, and this literally can allow you to bring home items such as toothpaste and shampoo for free.
Getting Items at Low Costs
Furthermore, not only are there free items, but you can get many family essentials at low, low costs. For example, you can get feminine products for free, or as low as .99 cents. Also, baby supplies can come at little sums, as well as dish detergent and laundry detergent.
No Longer Having to Purchase Only the Store's Brand
Another reason of why couponing can now be enjoyable, and even fun, is that no longer is it necessary to only purchase store brand products simply because they are less expensive. To be sure, store brand products are often much less than name brand items. However, by combining store sales with coupons, often the name brand can be at the same cost, or even much lower, than the store's brand. This is quite a treat, for example, when you consider the difference between buying quality, name brand toilet paper versus toilet paper that is of poor quality.
Conclusion
In approaching a year's time, my family has been able to gather items for free, merchandise at low costs, and has been able to experience different products that we normally would not have purchased. By combining store sales with coupons is how we have done this. If you also are a couponer, or are considering to begin couponing, please feel free to share below your stories of how couponing has been beneficial to you, or of how you think it could be beneficial. Yes, when couponing, the initial learning curve can be challenging, but after awhile, it can kind of, as I said above, become second nature . . . with a number of benefits to boot.
Hi Penny saved....this is good information and I am sharing...I love doing coupons myself even when they do not make many coupons for stuff I buy but I look for them online too....thanks....k
Shawn, it is fun! Initially, it does take some work (to learn how to coupon). But eventually, you get it, and the rewards are helpful. Thanks for reading and for leaving a comment!
Good article! It is fun to coupon, isn't it? You can donate a lot of things through food closets and stretch your donation money.
Yeah, Cynthia, that is part of my hope . . . I haven't got there quite yet, but it's on my mind . . . we'll keep working at it!
You're a seasoned couponer, I see:) I actually do plan to give some things to my family (who live in a nearby state). However, I figure that giving to them somehow doesn't count (though they could use all that I'm giving them). Yeah, just doing one thing will get the ball rolling. Thanks, Cynthia:)
So give a first single one to an organization or person nearby if sending a package is a barrier. And? Sending family a care package surely does count. If you've got ten toothpastes, pick one of them:-) blessings, Cynthia
Yeah, I plan to send toothpaste to my dad! You're right sending to family does count, but I hope to go even beyond that . . . just as you suggest to an organization. Blessings to you too, Cynthia:)
Wonderful! I've been using lots of coupons. My secret! I'm learning from friends at church who share ideas and specific coupons that can be matched to sales and double coupon specials.
Yeah, matching sales with coupons is the way to get the biggest savings. However, I don't think I shop at places that allow you to double your coupon.
Yes, I usually miss out on the doubling. It's usually a special coupon that they hide somewhere - and lets you double 4.
Dear Penny, I do not have any experience in this hobby, except that many of the comments I receive on my site are people who have a coupon site. good article.
I wish I had the patience for it. I don't shop a lot and most of what I do is on line. For my online shopping I do try to wait for free shipping or some other incentive. Thanks for the info
You're welcome, John. I hear what ya say about not doing a lot of shopping. I've never really enjoyed it (especially shopping for clothes). However, I am enjoying shopping for things that we truly need. It's been rewarding so far.
Good article and info Penny..I like trying new products with the coupon savings
Thanks, Kevin. Nice fish in your picture, btw! Yes, trying new products is a nice bonus that comes along with using coupons.
Thank you, Johnney, for reading and responding. btw, I see I'm not yet following you, so I'm gonna get right on that and join your Tribe!
Thanks, Lemuel. Couponing can be fun . . . it can also be challenging. You know, it's interesting, there are a ton of coupon websites out there. Truth be told, it's somewhat of a competitive niche, though not all of the keywords are taken!
