Without using super models, questionable pictures, or blasting out scams that don’t work, what are your ideas to attract visitors to your website? There are many options and you will need to choose carefully. I've included a few of my favorites to let you know what I do.
Know Your Site
This article assumes that you already have a website and you know how to share the url. But keep in mind that you always have to stay focused on the purpose of your site.
• Are you providing information?
• Are you selling or promoting anything?
• Is your site meant to be funny and entertaining?
• Are you blogging your travels or family events?
Whatever your purpose, make sure you stay focused on that and you are providing valuable information to potential visitors. You want to provide quality content but also be consistent with that content. Don’t start selling something and then start posting about your dog…unless you are selling dogs or dog training.
Articles Will Help
Find a few quality article websites that allow you to submit free articles, have a relatively quick approval turn around, and that let you add links; either within the article itself or in your author’s bio.
You then “point” these articles to your website and provide your readers with the opportunity to click through for more information. Again, as with the first point, your articles should be connected and relevant to the purpose of your site.
Use Social Networking
Once you have either a post from your website or an article that has been approved, you must take the next step and tell your networks about it. Don’t spam, meaning putting up post after post after post (your followers will start ignoring you), but do submit to your social networks on a regular basis. Some authors like to establish a schedule for their “releases” which allows your networks to know when next to expect your latest.
But also continue to connect socially so that you give your friends, family, or other followers some other tidbits about yourself or even what you’re thinking or doing that day. Your goal should be to continue to provide interesting and fun content but also to engage with the lives of your followers.
• Be genuine
• Be caring
• Help with problems or even offer up your own problem should you need help
• And reply to comments. This validates that what your followers have said is important
Videos and Pictures
I’m a great fan of pictures but must be frank and admit that I have not yet used videos. But these are two great ways to engage your readers in a whole new way by allowing them to be “watchers” as well. We all learn differently and like to be provided with options when we’re surfing on the internet. The search engines like visuals as well, especially those that are related to your website.
Talk About It
Interestingly enough, we seem to think that our websites only belong on the internet. Not true! They should become such a part of our lives that we are sharing verbally, whether with family, friends, or colleagues. People are actually interested and think “it’s cool” that you have a website and are writing regularly and developing it into an authority site.
What are your best ways to attract visitors to your website? I know there are many other methods and ways to get noticed but, given the breadth of the internet, it is sometimes difficult to know where to look or even who to trust. Be diligent and research before you jump but in all honesty, you should be looking at the different tools that are available and participate in sites that truly want you to succeed. It's important to participate in online communities that will support you because, to be honest, you are very likely working on your website from home and might just need to get out and "chat".
Thanks for reading.
Great article Rick. At times I find it hard to find new and interesting content for my websites. Other times it just seems to flow naturally. I agree wholeheartedly with your suggestion to participate in online communities. The feedback I have received would be hard to measure but it is substantial. The interaction with different cultures is a definite bonus.
The communities are important. I only post my website if invited, otherwise I try to chat and contribute meaningfully.
