My Website Made Me Do It

It’s not my fault, my website made me do it! I was just a quiet, stay-at-home kind of guy living my life in anonymity and peace. Then I got the brainwave to create a really good website.

Now guess what I spend my time doing? I’m pushing my face all over the world for any Tom, Dick, or “scary” to read and comment. Not only that, I’m regularly publishing my ideas and thoughts so everyone can crawl willy-nilly through my head and see what makes me tick.

So, here’s why I’m blaming my website:

My Online Spouse

Like I need one, but my site is like a good lover that wants care and attention. Too little and it screams silent html every time I walk by my laptop. Too much and it tells me I’m smothering it with taglines and pictures.

Sometimes I “cheat” on it and write articles elsewhere…like this one! And silly me, like lipstick on a collar I keep linking my articles back to my very jealous website. I try to explain that my articles are like my children…they are offspring to my great and wonderful website. Oh well, at least my site knows where I am all the time…I just can’t go staggering across the keyboard late at night.

It Makes Me Care

Now that I do not live in anonymity and peace any longer, my website is making sure that I care about my visitors and write quality posts with useful information. It’s sort of like the “content police” or something.

Whether I’m doing research on a keyword or just surfing other sites in my niche, when I come “home” my website always cajoles me into being just as good as or even better than what I just read or saw during my online travels. Heck, my site has even insisted that I go back and tweak some earlier posts because they “just weren't quite up to snuff now, were there?” Is this called nagging?

Create a Plugin

I've gone so far in pleasing my website that I've even considered creating my very own plugin; one that says: “That post is crap and you know it!” I’m not allowed to just tickle my keyboard whimsically without a thought of providing the information that my visitors are looking for.

I wonder if I could create a way that electricity passed directly through my keyboard to my fingers every time I wrote garbage or didn't give enough thought to what I was writing. Hmm, maybe that’s something those behavioral scientists have thought of already; who shall I call?

Won’t Lose “Site”

A little play on words, meaning:

• I won’t lose my sight on me, who I am and what I value

• I won’t lose my sight on my visitors because, well, without them, there is no site

• I won’t lose my “site”, it’s become so much a part of me that if I don’t look at it or even write on or for it, I feel lost.

So even though I say, a little tongue in cheek, that my site made me do it…it’s true. I created this thing that seems to have taken on a life of its own and now needs to be fed and watered most every day. What started off as a thought has now turned into something that I hope makes a difference on the internet.

I know that I am providing the information people are looking for, my stats and analytics tell me that. Now I have to continue improving and try to figure out what else they need…my site tells me that. And if you knew me you would know that I always do what I’m told…my wife told me that!

Thanks for reading.
