Online And On Time

Many of us have considered, or perhaps even own, an online business that we make our living from. Some even are able to work from home or from an office they rent or share. But remember, to do this, you need to be on time whenever you are working online.

What does this mean? It’s easy enough to sit back and think “Let the good times roll, I’m an online business owner”. But with that comes responsibility and commitment…to yourself and to your clients. There are certain expectations and requirements when you are working online and, just because you may not actually meet your clients face to face, you still need to deliver what you've promised…and when you promised it.

1. Day timer – hard copy or electronic, it doesn't really matter. You need some way to organize yourself so that you know what is due and when it is due. You cannot leave these things to memory as there are many other details you need to focus on as a business owner.

2. Automatic responders – human or electronic. Whether you use an answering service or have an online auto responders you need to get back to your clients in a timely fashion, even if it’s to tell them that you are not currently available but when you will be. Most people are willing to wait if they know how long the wait is for.

3. Make a commitment to deadlines. Whether you can respond in 24 hours, a week or a month (although, personally, I think this is too long) let your customers know that when your make a commitment and promise something by a certain date…deliver it! Many businesses, whether online or otherwise, rely on repeat traffic to their store and meeting deadlines is a sure way to make sure they come back to you when next they need something or have a dollar to spend.

An online business is a great opportunity to make a living, work from home, set your own hours…all those things. But even online businesses are “in the public eye” if you will. Not delivering is a sure-fire way of not succeeding. People talk to each other, whether in person or in social media. And it’s things like that that are a death knell for businesses if you are not given favorable reviews.

Don’t take a chance with your online business…deliver quality…be consistent…be reliable…and, most importantly…be on time. Trust me, your customers will notice!
