It seems redundant to tell anyone how to enjoy the enjoyable. Having fun is self-explanatory when you holiday in amazing places. And few places are as immersed in the ethos of an enjoyable time as the ski resorts nestled in the French Alps. Arrive, slip on your boots, and the fun comes to you!
But if your trip is a lightning quick, spur-of-the-moment decision, you might feel overwhelmed by the thought of picking the right activities for you. Here are some ideas to help you out.
On Two Feet
There's no doubt some of the best fun you can have on last minute ski holidays is on two feet. And this goes well beyond skiing. From the challenging pistes of Les Menuires to the tamer runs at La Tania, there are a plethora of activities you can have while on skis, snow-shoes, or snow boards around the Alpine valleys and slopes. From Alpine trekking to forest walks, boarding to sledding, skating to dancing - the large number of resorts in the Three Valleys and Paradiski afford you an almost inexhaustible array of options. Do some quick research of your resort and know what's on offer before you go.
Off Two Feet?
However, some fun can't be planned and often, the best things don't fit snuggly into an itinerary on those last-minute ski holidays. There comes a point in any skier or snowboarder's life where you should push yourself. Jump on that unfamiliar lift or dive down that challenging slope knowing you probably will end up with a mouthful of snow. Taking a few (calculated) risks is what unbridled fun is all about. And although snow isn't quite as soft as it looks, bruises heal!
In a Circle of Friendship
There is something intrinsically communal about ski resorts. The chalets, the restaurants, the lifts and the bubbling hot tubs all evoke a sense of camaraderie. It is up to you how you take advantage of it on last minute ski holidays to the Alps. Will you go alone and make new friends, go with old ones, or manage a mix of the two? Sharing a holiday with old and new friends can create moments that become lifetime memories. Step out of your comfort zone, enjoy the company of likeminded travellers, and open your mind to some wonderful opportunities.
Standing Still
The hustle and bustle of resort life can make sleep seem like a waste of time! Most last minute ski holidays offer so many things to do and never enough time to do them. But there is great value in standing still and just staring at the horizon, the pines in the valleys, or even the snowflakes drifting – this opportunity to stand still and commune with nature is an important part of the 'winding down' factor of a winter holiday. Don’t neglect it!
