My boyfriend has been fighting plantar warts for years and had his doctor freeze the warts about a month ago, which did not help much. He has just recently been using Compound W, Freeze Off and Dr. Scholl's Clear Away for plantar warts. After a month, 2 of 4 are completely gone but he is still struggling with the others. I've been doing some research for home remedies to help him get rid of the others and found some information that might be useful to someone out there.
Plantar warts are noncancerous skin growths on the soles of your feet and are caused by HPV (human papillomavirus). They usually form beneath pressure points on your feet. The majority of the wart is underneath the surface, so they can grow inward under a callus and become deep and hard to get to.
The are many home remedies, including one that I think we have all heard of, covering the wart with duct tape for 6 days at a time. This is supposed to take 6 weeks to help, if it ever does. Some people said that they can't even get the duct tape to stay on for 6 days at a time.
Before you use any remedy, soak your foot in soapy water for 20 minutes and then rub the wart with a pumice stone. My boyfriend uses a callus shaver every day to shave off the dead skin.
One home remedy I found was apple cider vinegar and cayenne pepper. You put the vinegar and cayenne pepper on a cotton ball and place it on the wart with a water proof band aide and keep it covered. Unfortunately, this is going to start to be very painful around the 3rd day. I also saw that you could use castor oil or the liquid out of a vitamin A capsule, which is supposed to help in about 3 to 4 weeks.
The remedy that sounded the best to me, that I am going to have my boyfriend try, was rubbing a drop of Frankincense 100% oil on the wart 2 times a day. In about a week, it is supposed to start turning black. First the wart will turn white, then you will see the black necrotic part come up and that is when you know you have killed the plantar wart.
I just found a website, Health 911, that has many home remedies to remove plantar warts. If the home remedies are not working for you after a few weeks, you will probably want to see a doctor. This is just another way we have to care for our skin.
