Tea tree oil is an essential oil that comes from the Paperbark tree which is a native of Australia. The oil is something that I've had in my house for as long as I can remember as it is one of the very best natural antiseptics that you can buy. A small bottle will last for several months and that small bottle isn't very expensive either. If you have acne scars, you might be wondering how much tea tree oil is effective for acne scarring? If you are wondering, know this - tea tree oil isn't as good for scarring as it is for the raw acne. There are far better solutions for helping to fade and clear the scarring that applying tea tree oil probably isn't going to make a big difference.
However, I do suggest that you buy a bottle anyway. This is because as I mentioned earlier it's an excellent antiseptic and works wonderfully against acne itself. As I'm sure you know, the best way to get rid of scarring is to never get it in the first place - if you can avoid it, do! I used to treat all my acne during my teenage years with tea tree oil and it got rid of many of the pimples that I received.
Now, if you're thinking that you will never need this information again - guess again. Roughly 25% of adults in the developed world have some form of acne at any one time. This is a CRAZY number so chances are that you will get a pimple or two that will need to be dealt with. A couple of treatments with the tea tree oil and you should be good to go. For the best results, boil some water up in a kettle and pour over a corner of a face cloth. Dab the hot water onto the pimple (it does hurt a little) then apply a small amount of the tea tree oil. The hot water brings the bacteria to the surface of the skin which the tea tree oil can then treat. It's an effective way of dealing with acne and even though it does sting a bit, the pimple will be gone very quickly.
You can try it on your acne scars as well if you like. It's not reported to have as much of an effect, but if you've tried everything else then it can be given a go. How much of it to use? Applying with your finger is the most effective way as this means you can smear it onto the face (and not waste it all in a cotton pad, for example). Just enough to cover the surface of the skin, then rub in. Maybe half a tea spoon for the entire face is a good starting point.
As I said, tea tree oil for acne scars isn't the most effective treatment. It's an antiseptic which makes it excellent for treating raw acne so it's still worth having a bottle in the home for that sort of event. You can also use it on cuts and scrapes if that happens. Good luck!
