Being unable to not show your feet because of nail fungus in public is frustrating for many. The amounts of people that live with such an infection are in the millions. Millions of people each year are still being affected and the numbers seem to escalate with no end it in site.
The medical term for nail fungus is called “Onychomycosis”. It is caused when small micro organisms enter the nail bed and begin destroying the Keratin of the nail causing it to turn to a yellow or brown color. In time the entire nail will turn to a yellow or brown color and start to crumble at the edges of the nail.
Once infected by these organisms it can be quite difficult to cure. The nail itself makes for a tough barrier and guards against penetration of such infections. But once this barrier is compromised, it then makes it much more difficult to eliminate nail fungus.
There are medications on the market that help in the process for curing nail fungus. Some of these medications are homeopathic, meaning that they are all natural and have been proven not to cause side effects. On the other hand there are also other medications that are much stronger and have been known to cause irreversible side effects.
In order to aid in the process of eliminating nail fungus, one should have an idea of how it was contracted if possible. Usually in most cases it is from the type of shoes we wear. If a shoe is tight fitting and does not allow the foot to breathe, this can be a perfect breeding ground for nail fungus. This fungus thrives in locations that are dark, humid and moist.
Other locations where fungus can be found are public locations. These locations are public showers, pool areas and locker rooms to name a few. Nail fungus is contagious, so walking barefoot in such places can cause a person to end up infected. It is advisable to wear sandals or shower shoes to limit the contact that the feet have to the possibly infected surface.
Once medication is purchased and the application of it has started, it is recommended to continue treatment until all medication is gone. Nail fungus is stubborn and if all the micro organisms are not full eliminated, the infection can return. Even if results are seen, continue with the medication until fully exhausted.
Precautionary measures can help in the fight against nail fungus. Treating it with medication is the only way of curing it.
