If someone told me that the new trend in fitness is balancing on a board in the water I would not believe it. It wouldn’t pass to my mind that the balance on a board with the help of paddle developed rabidly into a recognized sport worldwide. It resembles surfing and is called stand up paddle board or briefly SUP or SUP surfing or beach boy surfing. The only certainty is that SUP is taking the world by storm.
Even today SUP gave a new vision to the waterman lifestyle as a new trend in fitness, puddle surfing originated in ancient Hawaii. It is unbelievable but true. For centuries it remained unknown and returned to 1960’s. But it was forgotten for four decades until 2008 where it made a strong comeback. Then it was spread to other surfing areas in the world such as Southern California (Malibu), San Diego etc. Today Hawaii is regarded the home of SUP and Austin the SUP capital of the world.
The founder of Stand Up Paddle Surfing is Nick Matzorkis. Matzorkis lived on Lake Austin for years. In 2008 he moved temporarily to a beach house in Malibu, CA. His plan was to come back to the Lake Austin in 2010. Situations led to the creation of Stand Up Paddle Surfing. Matzorkis started stand up paddling using his beach deck. His first experience was excellent. Matzorkis without a second thought realized that with appropriate promotion Austin could become the SUP Capital of the World. And the idea was immediately born.
SUP is the ideal sport for both young and adults. Every day it is gaining popularity . Thousands of people of all ages experience this sport. By now this sport gained many funs even celebrities. Many athletes use it as a mean of training. The endless fitness opportunities made the world passionate about this sport.
