Treat Pimple Scars at Home

Since the average person doesn’t have the luxury of having a full- time team to air-brush their appearance to perfection, we have to rely on other ways to treat pimple scars at home. Thankfully there are safe, effective ways to treat pimple scars at home, including creams and performing chemical peels at home.

Isn’t it bad enough that we had to get the pimple in the first place and now the pesky thing left behind its calling card? Our skin is miraculous in that it heals itself, however sometimes in its attempt to heal our wound; it leaves behind too much collagen, resulting in pimple scaring. Deeper skin tones typically notice a darkening of the skin due to these pimple scars. Lighter skin tones experience redness. Most pimple scars are shallow in appearance, but some can reach deeper into the skin layers.

What makes pimple scarring worse?

The Sun:

The sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays can lead to further darkening of the pimple scar and can slow the healing process down. This is mainly because of melanin, the substance that our skin produces to absorb and neutralize the ultraviolet rays coming from the sun. The more melanin our skin produces, the darker it will be. Now in theory this sounds awesome, as who wouldn’t want a golden tan? However, if your skin is suffering from pimple scarring, the skin is in healing mode and more susceptible to the sun and its harmful rays. Sunscreen should be worn at all times to help prevent further darkening to the pimple scar.

Picking or Popping the Pimple

What is it about pimples that make you want to pop them? Seriously, some people get really excited about this. And no, no, no, it does not make them go away faster and it is not doing your skin any favors. So, repeat after me: “I will no longer pop my pimples” Now, doesn’t that make you feel better? Popping the pimple can cause the pus and bacteria to go even deeper into your skin and cause pimple scarring. Picking at the scar, (well I never!), slows the healing process of the skin, damaging the collagen your body is producing to heal the pimple scarring to begin with. Damaging the collagen will leave indentations, or deepen the scar.

Treat Pimple Scars at Home

There is a wide range of topical creams available. Cortisone creams can be used to reduce inflammation caused by pimple scarring. Other topical creams contain a type of bleaching agent, lightening up the hyperpigmenation that the pimple scar left behind. However, it can be hard to spot treat with a bleaching cream, as it can still leave your face with an uneven skin tone. All bleaching creams will make your skin more sensitive to the sun, as it is lightening it. Individuals with lighter skin tones are more likely to burn when out in the sun. Sunscreen should be applied diligently to protect from new damage.

Performing chemical peels at home involve the application of a chemical solution to the surface of your skin. There are different levels when performing chemical peels at home, each depending on the strength of the chemical used. The type, depth and size of your pimple scarring will determine the level of chemical peel that you do at home. The chemical solution dissolves the damaged, scarred surface tissue. The damaged skin is then replaced with a more youthful, healthier layer of skin, as the old skin peels off. The new skin is also smoother and less wrinkled. Performing chemical peels at home typically takes about a week, with the stronger, deeper peels taking slightly longer. There is typically no down time while performing chemical peels at home and normal daily activity can still be carried out. Most peeling will occur toward the end of the process, and depending on your individual comfort level, you may choose to not go out publicly during the final peeling stage. Once the process has been completed, the appearances of pimple scarring and redness are improved. Again, sunscreen should be applied daily after completing chemical peels at home to help protect your skin from any new damage.

It is safe, quick, and effective to treat pimple scars at home. Performing chemical peels at home, or applying topical creams leaves your skin refreshed and smooth. Performing chemical peels at home, provides minimized or reduced hyperpigmentation and pimple scarring. Our skin, especially our face, is our billboard to the world. Advertize to the world healthy, glowing skin and effectively treat pimple scars at home.
