Do you suffer from hyperpigmentation? First what is hyperpigmentation? It is characterized as brown spots or reddish spots on the skin. Hyperpigmentation may be caused by exposure to sun, inflammation or other skin damage. People with darker skin are more prone to hyperpigmentation. But it can also be caused by acne as well.

When it comes to treatment you have tons of choices to choose from. There are thousands of products on the market that offer some relief. But many of them are very expensive and do not work well.

First let’s look at the available skin treatments that are available today:

1. Laser therapy- laser therapy evolves using a laser to remove the out hyperpigmented skin.

2. Acid peels- rejuvenate cells by using chemicals while removing damaged skin.

3. Bleaches and Creams- designed to decrease the color of the affected parts. The cream or bleach is only applied to the hyperpigmented area.

These forms of skin treatments are very affective. Repeated applications may be necessary. Some side effects could occur and are dependent on the user.

Alternative Remedies:

Alternative remedies come in every shape and form. They have been around for hundreds of years and are usually plant based. Most alternative remedies come from countries that are tropical and in close proximity of the equator.

1. One common anecdote is mixing gels made aloe vera, honey, and milk into a paste and applying it to the skin that is hyperpigmented. In a couple of weeks you should notice the skin lighten.

2. Another alternative remedy is to combine cucumber extract, honey, and lemon juice into a paste and apply to skin.

These foods process a property known to have shown to have skin lightening powers and elevate skin hyperpigmentation.

When used on a regular basis both skin treatments and alternative remedies have been shown to be effective treatments for hyperpigmentation on face, neck, back, arms, and legs. The areas that are more susceptible to skin damage are the areas that receive the most sun. There are several precautionary measures that can be taken to limit the exposures to sun. That is limit sun exposure during the hours of 10 AM and 3PM. If you must be outside wear long sleeves, a full brim hat and a sun protectant of at least 30 SPF.

I know avoiding sun exposure is not easy or enjoyable. So if you do start to see hyperpigmented skin take action and try either a skin treatment or alternative remedy. The best treatments for hyperpigmentation of face, neck, legs, and arms are treatments you can stick to. It takes consistency for any treatment to work.

Hmm. The face redness stuff resonates with me, John, that's for sure. I've got to stay out of the sun. Debating my floppy hat today -- guess this reminds me I'd better wear it again. Not much sun as far as others would say, but too much for me! I use the metronidazole cream, myself. Expensive but it does seem to work for me. Ahh... and the special-order over the counter, "Vanicream" bars of non-soap for cleaning my face. Off to walk in the sunshine - thanks for the reminder to care for my face. blessings, Cynthia
