What\'s the Best Essential Oil for Scars?

Essential oils are great little things - they're concentrated oils which are often used to scent particular products, or perhaps burnt to make a room smell nice. They are also used on the skin due to their many beneficial qualities. Scars of all types can be helped along by various essential oils, but if you only got to pick one, then which one would be the best? What's the best essential oil for scars?

I won't muck about - the best oil that you can use on your scarred skin is Rosehip oil. You mightn't have heard of it before - that's okay. It's a little outside the "essential" essential oils. So you might have a little more trouble getting ahold of it then say, lavender oil. You might need to have a look on the internet to find a bottle.

But I'm getting ahead of myself here. Why is Rosehip oil such a good product for the skin? Well, Rosehip oil has been tested on stretch marks (a common complaint) and there was a marked improvement in the quality of the skin tissue. It doesn't have to be just stretch marks either. You can apply Rosehip oil to any number of skin complaints. Acne scars, cycling scars, surgical scars, you name it, Rosehip oil can help it.

This essential oil is loaded with goodness. It's packed with Vitamin C which helps tissue repair, Lycopene which is a natural anti-oxidant, Omega 9 which is a popular skin care component, as well as Vitamin A which helps to stimulate collagen production. The end result of this is that you end up with smoother skin, a fresher tone, and reduced scarring.

How often should you apply Rosehip oil to your scars? I suggest that you do it as much as possible. Once a day if you are able to, cutting back to once every two or three days if you have particularly oily skin. Make sure that you do a spot test before you begin regular treatment - while there shouldn't be a problem with this oil, it pays to check.

Overall I think it's definitely worth giving Rosehip oil a go. If you were to only try one essential oil I'd highly recommend that you make it this one (not that the other's aren't worth it though). It's a part of a scar reduction program that you can't really afford to leave out. When you're looking for some to get, the raw stuff is fine. You don't need it mixed in with any other type of skin care product. That's just not necessary!
