I have heard for years that you should “live in the moment.” You know the old saying: Carpe Diem or Seize the Day. Yet, the moment is so fleeting.
Right when you realize it the present, well that seems to be the past. I have heard we are actually always living in the past. Even when we look in the mirror or up at the stars; in the mirror the light reflecting back at us if from a few seconds earlier; the light from the stars comes from millions of light years in the past.
So is there a way to live in the moment? Can living in the moment change your sleep?
True for all of us, we have 24 hours in one day. I don’t know about you but I am a live in tomorrow kind of person. If you are not a live in tomorrow kind of person you may not know what I am talking about. I do what needs to get done today, and usually that is the bare minimum.
If something doesn’t get done, or there is any way I can possibly put it off till tomorrow, I do. I also live in tomorrow. Tomorrow I feel happy. Tomorrow I will get more sleep. Tomorrow I will get organized. Tomorrow I will finally get control of my diet. Tomorrow I will start an exercise program. You know the problem with tomorrow? It never comes. In fact, there is only today, because each day I wake up, it is today and I continue to live in tomorrow.
In fact, there really is only the “moment.”
So of course each day as I stay up late, each day I put off getting a bedtime routine, (because I will do it tomorrow) my sleep suffers. Understanding the principle of living in the moment, literally change how you sleep. Learning how to be in the moment, letting go of tomorrow, actually help me sleep. As I fall asleep I can let go of the stress of the day, I can let go of every care, and I can be in that moment.
Secondly, as I do the things today, the ones I am putting off till tomorrow, I am able to understand why am I not happy today. I can get organized, change the things that make me unhappy, the ones I cannot: I accept. Living in the moment helps me to be grateful for all my wonderful family, friends, and the other positives in my life.
Can living in the moment change the way you sleep? For me, definitely. Living in the moment helps me to create a fulfilling life, one moment at a time. These happy moments help me sleep: well. Many happy moments to you all and continued sweet dreams!
