I am fortunate enough to be able to fall asleep quickly when I go to bed at night. During the day, I run and I publish. Therefore, when I go to bed, I am tired. I do not toss and turn or lie awake staring at the ceiling. I know that some people are not so fortunate. They have trouble sleeping, so their days do not go so well.
Soem people worry about problems at work. They might have a personality conflict with a coworker, for example. This type of situation often creates a tense work environment. At night, they lie awake and worry that the coworker they have a problem with might talk to the supervisor. The supervisor might then fire both people. Work problems are not all that keep people awake at night, however.
Students might also have trouble sleeping. They often worry about upcoming speeches that they will give or tests that they will take. A speech, for example, generally has to be a certain length. Students might worry that they will not talk long enough. They know that if their speech is too short, they will lose points. If they have a test coming up, they might worry that they will draw a blank during the test, frantically trying to remember the answer to a test question but coming up with nothing.
A multiple-choice test is usually not so bad, since the answers are right there in front of the student. He simply has to choose the right answer. Proper and sufficient studying can usually prevent students from panicking during a test. With proper studying, a student can feel confident about an upcoming test. He should then be able to sleep well. Worries are not all that might keep a person awake at night, however.
He might have neighbors who have noisy parties late into the night. The noise keeps him awake. He can cope with this problem by using earplugs. If he uses an alarm to wake up in the morning, however, he might not hear the alarm if he has his earplugs in. He might then oversleep.
Be thankful if you usually sleep well, if you have no neighbors, or if you have quiet, considerate neighbors who are respectful of others. Not everyone is so lucky.
If yo do not sleep well, change your routine so that you can sleep better. Work out early in the day so that you can wind down before going to bed. Avoid spicy foods and scary movies near bedtime. Turn on a fan to drown out the outside noise. Then try to get some sleep.
