How To: A Stop To Snoring Guide

Snoring seems to be something that affects a lot of people, yet it is surprising that most choose to do nothing about it. Why are we so complacent about this? The reason for this could be that we are just too ignorant about the impact on our health.

Sleep is turning out to be one of the most important factors affecting our health. And it is one that is so little understood. If snoring is such a detriment to health perhaps there are a few ways to help prevent snoring in the first place.What is needed is A Stop To Snoring Guide.

Here are 4 broad, but effective ways you can use to help you stop snoring:

  1. Lifestyle Changes: There are some simple things you can change to help yourself stop snoring. These include lowering the intake of alcohol, as well as sedatives before night time. Also included are such things as lowering your weight, quitting smoking and establishing a regular pattern of sleeping, but these are more difficult to overcome. Concentrate on the little things first.
  2. Self Diagnosis: How you are Snoring? Do you sleep with you mouth open or closed? If you sleep with your mouth and you snore, this indicates that your tongue is the cause of your snoring. Open-mouthed snoring might be caused by bad sleep positions, or closed sinus passages. Simple changes to sleeping positions like sleeping on your back or having trouble breathing due to blocked sinus passageways could make a world of difference.
  3. Clear Sinuses: There are a few simple tricks to unblock your sinuses including pushing your tongue on the roof of your mouth while simultaneously pushing your finger firmly between your eyebrows for about 20 seconds. If your sinuses are the cause find a way to keep them clear. If your nose is blocked, you can try simple nasal strips to keep your sinuses clear or other ways to clear your sinuses like saline rinsing.
  4. Anti-snoring Devices: Specialized devices that fit in your mouth are referred to as dental devices and can instantly alleviate your snoring symptoms. Some are more intrusive as they fit in your mouth such as a dental retainer or tongue stabilizer, like the AveoTSD. Others fit externally like chin straps or over your entire mouth in the case of the C-PAP.

The main thing is to find what works and implement it. If the thought of having something in or around your mouth is off putting, remember that the results of snoring and possibly sleep apnea is far worse.

For me, it was the AveoTSD that worked right off the start. It was not that uncomfortable, though it did take a bit to get used too. And besides, it actually works.
