To Sleep Better, Watch Something Funny Before Bed

Have you been having trouble sleeping lately? There are several things that can cause a person to have trouble sleeping, such as extreme temperatures, noise, worries, and certain medications. Since sleep is important to your health and well-being, you need to be able to sleep well. There are several things you can do to improve your sleep.

One way to sleep better is to exercise early in the day. Working out right before going to bed tends to keep a person awake, rather than allowing him to get the sleep that he needs. Find a form of exercise that you enjoy, such as walking, running, or rollerblading. Find some great music to work out to, like Blondie's "Greatest Hits" CD or Lady Gaga's CD titled "Born This Way", and have a great workout. After some exercise, you will be tired at bedtime, rather than restless, and you will be ready to go to bed.

Another way to have a restful night, rather than a night of tossing and turning, is to eat an early dinner. Enjoy a dinner of lasagna and spinach around 5:30 p.m., for example. By eating early, your body will have time to use the food that you have eaten. When you eat and then go straight to bed, on the other hand, your body does not have time to use the food that you have eaten. The food then turns to fat. By eating early, and then going to bed around 10:30 p.m., for example, your meal should be digested, and you should be able to sleep well.

Finally, watch something funny before you go to bed. If you watch the news right before you decide to call it a night, all of the horrible and scary things that you saw and heard on the news will find their way into your dreams. What funny things do you like to watch? Do you enjoy sitcoms like "The King of Queens", "George Lopez", and "Roseanne", for example? Watch them! If you do not have cable or satellite service, or if you simply would prefer to watch a movie rather than a sitcom before going to bed, there are many great funny movies to choose from, such as "Marmaduke" and "Mrs. Doubtfire".

After watching something light-hearted, you should be able to go to bed and sleep very well. What will you dream of? You will likely dream about the movie or sitcom you watched. You might have other dreams, however, such as a dream that you earned a desired amount of money from publishing, a dream about a steaming cup of black coffee, or a dream that you got a call from a friend whom you have not seen for several years.

Wrap up your work for the day, fix a yummy dinner, and then settle in to watch something funny on television. Sweet dreams.

Great tips, Hollie. I've never been great at the whole sleeping thing. Steve Wright, the comic, once said, "My wife asked me this morning if I slept alright and I said, 'No, I made a few mistakes.'" And your last paragraph reminds me of one of my favorite jazz standards: "Wrap Your Troubles In Dreams and Dream Your Troubles Away". Good work here, thanks.

Always read a page or two of a book before I sleep, it takes my mind off every thing else, sometimes I sleep before putting the book down or taking my glasses off, but the wife takes them off and puts my light out.. Good wife she is..

I agree my wife and I sit down most nights to a funny sitcom right before bed usually, big bang theory or rules of engagement, we had king of queens on the player but deleted as we had watched them so many times. Go out on a high not a low as you say. Thanks for sharing.
