If you have ever heard someone snore, you know exactly where I'm coming from with this title. I understand that those who snore don't want to be loud and annoying and snoring may be a great indicator that something more is going on; in fact it may be an indicator of a person current state of health. So while annoying, snoring could be a serious matter. Therefore, it's best to find out what is causes the issue.
Tips To Help You Stop Snoring
It is common for people who sleep on their backs to snore and while you may start out on your side in an effort to avoid snoring, you soon find this does not work very well and you end up on your back again. Try stitching a tennis ball into the rear of your nightie or pajamas shirt, when you roll onto your back, the tennis ball will stop you cold. The nuisance of that tennis ball will force you on your side and BINGO! The snoring stops. OK, so this may sound a bit crazy with the tennis ball, but it works.
Another tip is go to your local pharmacy and purchase some nasal strips. Use them at bedtime. I know of several people (namely family members) that have achieved wonderful results from the strips. The strips will cause your nasal passageways to open up and permit greater air flow. You may not totally stop snoring but you will certainly snore less.
Perhaps you are carrying excess weight; if so, consider losing weight. Some may wonder how losing weight helps with snoring. Less weight means less of a fleshy area in your throat. The more fatty tissue or fleshy area in your throat tends to block the passageways of air flow; which in turn causes more snoring and less sleep for you and those near you.
It is common knowledge that a person should quit smoking or drastically cut back on smoking to help with the snoring issue. Smoking destroys the respiratory system as well as damage other parts of your body. Plus, smoking is down right 'yucky' in my opinion. If you are a heavy smoker, this could very well be the sole cause of your snoring, there's only one way of finding out. Quit smoking and live a happier healthier lifestyle.
Stay off the sauce, well not completely; don't consume alcohol right before retiring to bed. The alcohol will cause your muscles to relax, including those that keep your nasal passages open. Less air flow means more snoring and no one wants that.
Don't drink that glass of warm milk before hitting the sack. Milk causes mucus, you don't want excess mucus because this causes snoring. So if at all possible avoid milk before bedtime.
Do you need a better pillow? Maybe your pillow is not working for you. You may need more support. Elevating your head can help keep your air passages open and reduce or prevent snoring. You never know, it may be something as simple as a better pillow.
As annoying as snoring may be to you and those around you, it could be your body's way of indicating that something is not right, so it is best not to ignore the issue, especially if the snoring is particularly loud and interferes with your sleep.
I hope the above tips prove to be helpful; best wishes for restful sleep, pleasant dreams.
