Selling A Small Business Online

There are a number of key factors to look out for when looking to sell a business online.

When recently looking to sell a small business of my own i figured the best place to start was online.

Being somewhat involved in the business for sale field already i do have a little bit of a box seat so to speak as i know which sites are most effective.

One of the most important decisions you will need to make is if you are selling through a registered business broker or you going to try and sell your business by yourself. In My case i was only looking at selling a very small online business in which i was prepared to sell myself.

There are so many business for sale type websites out there but really only a few worth mentioning, you will find these by just doing some research on businesses for sale or your specific business for sale but just searching on Google.

Providing you can convince yourself that the website has a high enough search engine ranking and the fees are reasonable id suggest identifying the top 3 sites and listing on all of them.

Some buyers are loyal to one site and will continually go back to the same site checking for new listings. This is why i suggest a few sites. When using a business broker, chances are that they will list on the top sites also. After recent conversation with a senior member of the Australian institute of business brokers it is known to the US market that some brokers will list on 25-30 websites !!!! Huge really ..

Here in Australia the market is no so large so we have 3-4 major players and a handful of quality smaller guys...

Getting back on track, once you have established the site you want to use, get some nice bright photos, this is very important. You are after all trying to sell a large asset of yours, so make it look nice.

No point trying to sell a dirty car, you clean it up first. The same goes with your business sale, ensure you books are in order with 2-3 yrs of financial records and present the business or franchise for sale so that the buyer can see its efficiency and how it runs, with scope for them to expand the business.

FEED THE GREED, the buyer wants to know how much better he can make the business and how they can improve on what you have already done.

So once your business for sale ad is up and running its then time to sit back and wait for your buyer. It can be a very tedious process and take quite some time, the help of a business broker can also be very worthwhile.
